I don't normally post much, but I have an idea. I have been looking for high lift rocker arms for my 262. It is very similar to a 223. The high lift arms are getting hard to find. I noticed that early 223 rockers are 1.52:1, and later model are 1.43:1. I'm curious if early models are interchangeable into the later model head as a means of providing a cheap "high lift" rocker. The rockers also resemble 292 rockers if memory serves, although they are rarely above the 1.43 ratio. They may be easier to find aftermarket rockers for. I will try to find a 292 to check shaft diameter and such, but I was wondering of someone might already have an answer.

No mine aren't zero lash. Thanks in advance.

Seems like I have seen the Barker rockers come up pretty often on ebay.Might also try contacting EGGE's if you haven't allready done so.

Bearitbilt, if you don't get an answer here, maybe try on www.fordsix.com

    ***edit. Are we talking about a Inline6 223 - 262? or a y-block 262 - 292?

The Y block rockers come in 1.43, and 1.54. The 1.54 are rare and expensive, but they are being manufactured new again. Also, the Y block racers are useing 1.6 aluminum rockers, but I dont know where they come from. Check the John Mummert website for new rockers.

Thanks guys. My buddy's got a 292 layin on the garage floor. I'm gonna try to get over there and do some measuring. Still looking for an early 223 for comparisons, or someone with numbers? Thanks for the help so far.

Saxon-Looking for inline 223-262 interchangability to get more lift out of my late model (64) 262, possibly mixing in some y block rockers.

  6. The Y-Block rockers are 1.43 and 1.54 but they are shorter than the six rockers. The push rod will certainly rub the tube and the tip will miss the valve. The early rockers should work fine though, just be sure you have the right towers. The early valve cover bolts to studs in two of them.

  7. Pictures say it at. There's about 1/2" difference.

Barret, do the rockers even interchange between 223 and 262's? The heads have some real differences, but I never compared the rockers....
    Interesting discussion, I have a 262 also.

Not sure! That was mostly the point. Mine is a 64. I will pop the cover this weekend if it isn't raining and do some math on what is there. I may have a lead on an interchange manual, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't go back far enough to check the early 223 interchange.

Nice to meet another 262'r. Getting pretty rare these days.

I haved measured hundreds of 215, 223, and 262 rockers. I couldn't come up with any higher lift rocker ratio. I measured EAA and EBP marked rockers, along with non ford manufacture. I have yet to find EAG 1952-1956 truck only. My Barker Rockers are 1.54. If you offset the rocker bushing .020, you can get a 1.52 rocker ratio. Because the valve stem leans away from rocker shaft centerline, longer valves reduce rocker ratio. The radius ground on the rocker where it touches the valve stem can be ground to ramp up a higher ratio. Hope this helps. I to am looking for the mystery rocker.

    If money was no object, I wouldn't be building a 223. :D
