An acquaintance posted this over on F'Barn. He has a USED, matched-set ring and pinion that came out of a '37-'40 banjo rear, 10-spline pinion. The tooth count is 11/37, which would equate to a 3.36 to 1 ratio. The end of the pinion is definately stamped "11-37", obviously before hardening. We've all seen the standard Ford ratios: 3.54, 3.78, 4.11, and even the 4.44s. Anyone have any definitive info on a 3.36 (11/37) set for a banjo? He has verified the tooth counts...11/37. DD
He was en-route to do a thorough cleaning, looking for possible further ID. Stand-by for more..........! DD
OK, some Saturday morning update. Mike sent me some pics after looking at the ring and pinion more closely...this is FORD stuff! His quote: "I inspected the gear set even closer. So now I can say with 100% certainty these are a FORD (oem) matched set. The pictures herein show the script on the ring gear as well as (180° opposite) some etching which reads #221, 11-37 ratio and L.008." If you look closely at the first pic below, you'll see the FORD script at the 9:00 o'clock position, mid-way out. The "221, 11-37 ratio and L.008" appear near the edge of ring gear at 3:00 o'clock. ANYONE know anything about these? DD
