Will a 1949 chev speedo cable fit on a 350? I have a leak at the speedo cable hookup because the one on my truck don't match up, and untill I can get the end changed its a open leak. Is there any other way to stop the leaking?

  2. it;s not leaking at the speedometer drive because the cable doesn't match up . it's leaking because of bad seals. there is an outer O-ring and an inner seal...replace them

you should be able to have no speedo cable and no leaks

if the plastic driven gear the cable end slides into , has a groove in it from the seal... you need a new gear.

If the speed-O bullet insert is aluminum, toss it out. Buy a steel replacement bullet. The aluminum bullets wear out real bad

Our 49 pu has the orig speedo cable with SW speedo and TH350 for years. Just got around to (finally) using the available formulas and replacing the plastic gear (now 17t) and a steel housing which came with two new "o"rings. After driving off the tach for 10 years it's hard to actually look at the now accurate speedo out of habit.

  5. What they said. The cable seals nothing.
