Bass, I may play with that idea after the pileup. I would like to do something a little different on there. I just haven't figured out what. I looked at pics of Anthony's car but didn't really want to copy his idea either. What do you mean by projector beams? Are you talking about those Auto zone driving lights? Do I have to worry about melting the plastic with those? Igor, I personally think there is more going on in the midwest than in California or Texas. Mainly because people can afford to play more here. I see the same cars in pictures from all of the shows out west. It seems people out there build one car and then they are done (generally speaking of course)
Damn thats cool on a hundred different levels!! The only thing you'll get sick of is seeing every other rod going down the road that looks JUST like your car, its so common. Seriously though, great work, each update looks better and better. A little of topic, but what'd you end up using for your brake pedal/master cylinder set-up?
Along the theme of Bass' sketch what about bike headlights. I know some older bikes had 6" lights but some of the new stuff has a projetor kinda of light. BTW - this is compeletly awesome. It makes you want to hope in and drive just the way it it!!
What about a single-bucket headlight setup right in the center of the grille, giving it kind of a cyclops look? Set one Chrysler bucket up there, with the pretty tipped-out point leaning forward, or what about a pair of oddball '62 Imperial headlight buckets? http://www.imperialclub.com/Yr/1962/MessickVert/62C_RS_Grill.jpg
Fritz and I were looking at some bike headlights they had all the wrong mounting tabs to use them with the stands I got from Bigdaddy. I could make some stands to work with the bike lights, I guess I am still undecided at this point. The guide lights don't bother me too much, because if I tag some road debris like I did coming bac from the HAMB drags, I am not really out too much.
With those tailfins,it would look good with a long torpedo shaped headlight, like 37' olds.everything on that car looks like it's stretching or being pulled back by the wind.Cool as shit!I have not heard you mention all of the damn hours it took to build the body,Just how much time do you have in that thing?
Seriously though... with all the work on the ass-end of that thing, it would look kinda "half-done" if you just went with a grill and bucket lights man... you need to get crazy on that face baby! But something that matches the rear, flow-wise.
Ha Ha Ha. Guiseart, in reality those headlights would be about 2.5 inches in diameter. I need something I can actually see at night with! No one ever looks at the front of my shit anyway. Ha Ha Ha I really am not that big of a Dokken fan either. I like Lynch Mob a great deal though.
What about some tiny, almost completely hidden modern HID or projector lights? You could find a really inconspicuous place, maybe even under the axle, where you wouldn't be able to see them but they would still be functional. It's supposed to look sci-fi.
Some ideas... Cantilever the headlights forward so they are even with the front axle sort of in the same position as the lights on Wilhelm's purple Wild Dream, except mold the the "stalks" into the shell similar (but not a copy of) to the idea of the headlight on the Mysterion, only twice. Style them to compliment the appendage-like shape of the tail light "fins" Maybe even shape a bigger version of the tail light hsng into a bucket with the light(s) inside and a T-signal instead of the red reflector? Another idea, put them close together at the bottom and in front of the grill shell, ala Druid Princess. You could even run five of the six lights off the '59 Olds up there if they were spaced Headlight-T-signal-Headlight-T-signal-Headlight sorta like: (OoOoO) with one of those painted Kenworth dual light buckets stretched enough to surround the bunch of them.
yeah i know we have discussed your dislike for dokken!! ( thats why i put it there!!) im all for the quads. a friend of mine has an old glass quad light grill shell from the sixties he is gonna let me make a mold from when i do my model a. if i was i little farther along i would make one for ya.. when i get it ill send you a pic, maybe ill have it done for next summer.. they used to use it for chips and dip at the car club partys
Of course I could throw out the "why did they go to all that trouble on the grille and not do anything else to the car" card out on that pic glassguy! Ha Ha Ha It seems that me using a plain old set of shitty headlights would be OK using that pic for an example, only in reverse. Ha Ha Ha
My humble opinion is that car will only look good with headlights molding into the grille. The headers give it a busy look from the front and separate headlights will only add to the confusion. ..not an artist but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn express once.
First, I really dig the lander, it's groovy! Second, if you want wild headlight ideas, go to the source... George.
Thought I'd try a couple simple scribbles .... I'm sure the lights are all on the small side, but who knows with all the new lights out there .... You still could scale up 125% and look good .... Making a shell could be cool, but a lot of work ...
I would go for the Bass version or something along those lines. Don't bother trying to find quads or anything else that would fit or look right - just design and make your own. Something real "spacy" lookin. Something that complements those fins! Regular plain ol guide lights would look like you ran out of enthusiam by the time you reached the front. I'd also consider modifying those Nova headers so that they are even from side-to-side when viewed from the front and also end with a different turn-out. They're pretty cool...but still a little awkward. That thing is just way too friggen cool to skimp on the final details - The shape you created is just spectacular!
Combine the "Emperor" and the "Ala Kart" and scale em down a bit, and you'll be on the right track. I don't think you'd be copying Anthony's (Brownneck Bandito)....afterall his grille/headlight treatment is basically a variation of the ones on the two cars I just mentioned. You could throw a few other somewhat famous cars in the mix as well. I don't know if the projector beams would get too hot or not...I don't even know if that's the correct term for them. I see them in nearly all the auto parts stores on the headlight aisle, though. For what it's worth, you could probably run a single sealed beam behind the covers and run some type of diffuser...a lot like the stuff that's used in common home flourescent lighting. Check out your local plastics supply or electrical sign company...they might even have some scraps you could get for nearly nothing. I realize that all this is easier said than done, but like Cleatus says...you've been so far out of the box thus far, that you shouldn't jump back in it as you're wrapping it up. Stick to your instincts...it's going to be killer.
How bad am I at Photoshop? Real bad. The '62 Chrysler quads don't look as good as I thought they would, mostly due to my lack of 'shopping skills. ( I think mine are pretty close to scale.) but I think the grille looks pretty cool pinched in on the bottom. Maybe go with the Guides but pinch the bottom of the grille shell? Some of those squinty '34 Auburn parabolic headlights would look cool too but would cost a shitload. I couldn't find a picture of those.
Plowboy your next project should be a 60 Pontiac Roadster.... I can so see the similarities... 60 tailights on top of the decklid look pretty rad too.
'57-58 Chrysler / DeSoto had some interesting looking headlight doors that could be worked into something neat. They came in single and dual light versions.. http://www.1957desoto.150m.com/images/57-100_front.jpg http://simplexco.com/auto/1957/57CGL2.jpg
I have been looking for a 59 or 60 ponitac to build a bubble top out of. They ain't exactly falling out of the trees around here. Ha Ha Ha
