Here's a little video that I made chopping the roof on my 53 chevy <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/TiJ6cKH4P9A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
cool video, Only concern with the way you chopped was the lack of interior bacing...one parallel brace in the mid section seems risky...Obviously it came out fine in the video, however, how was keeping the body square once the roof was off? Typically theres quite a bit of bracing to totally secure the body's true square once the tops off. just my 2 cents...don't mean to be a kill joy
4rod-I was thinking the same. It appears to have come outgood despite bracing, but risky and probably made more work for them selfs. Still, in the end, its pretty *****en
hey 4rod and yetis, I chopped my first car 40 years ago. a 49 Merc 4dr. with no bracing at all.!! I did not know you were supposed to...lol car is still driving around
I realize some go about chopping without bracing and other certain crucial steps to insure true square, My thought is once the lid is off, squaring up is more difficult...I.E. doors, rear window etc...I'll let others chim in with their experiences...
I suppose you could ad braces all over the place but eventually everything has to be moved a little bit theres no way to brace the bottom of the car and cut 3 1/2" out and drop the top down and everything lines up I took many critical measurements across the car across the door openings, etc. and believe it or not nothing moved after the roof was cut off, after all was said and done the doors line up perfectly and vent windows are still functional as long as the back side windows,
In hind sight, would you have chopped it more? If not, why? (just curious how you came up with the amount that you chopped)
