Exhaust time on the 35 chevy. mild 250 inch inline with clifford split header. I ran both pipes side by side down the left frame rail and dumped them ahead of the rear tire and theres no room to stack 2 mufflers there. Looking to tame it down a bit- anyone ever stuffed a pair of aftermarket Harley drag pipe baffles in their pipes? 2 1/4" duals is more than plenty for a little 250, (heck, a little backpressure might help it), and theres tons of 2 1/4" slip in baffles available for the Harleys. Opinions?
i have a full vance and hines system on my road king cl***ic and i took my baffles out to see what it sounded like, just lets say they work real well when there in lol
When I was on the HD parts counter I sold a few to people for just that. If you get a cool parts guy tell them what youre doing and they will help. I found my customer the longest ones we could get. Cant remember brand now though
instead of slip-ons, weld baffles inside your pipe. it'll look like a straight pipe with a secret.v-twin has 'em for 2 1/4 pipes.
Harleys with a muffled exhaust ? Not around here.... cheap drag pipe baffles can be restrictive despite being noisy.
I'm in the middle of trying something new with the exhaust on one of my other cars. I don't have enough room for mufflers as you can see here: I bought a set of Car Chemistry baffle inserts. They make them in 2 1/4, 2 1/2 and 3 inch in 2 bffle pieces or 3 baffle pieces. They look like this: You can see the end of the baffle sticking out the end of the collector. My exhaust tips also connect to the collector. I'm kind of interested in how loud this will be. I do plan on posting my opinion on these along with a video. I believe I paid about $60 or so for these from Summit Racing.
i put them on a banger motor with split exhaust and they worked great. it sounded like the lawn-mower from hell!
keep the ideas coming and hrm2k, keep me updated! I have a set of V&H baffles on order, and stabbed a pair of thrush gl***packs on for the time being. Actually, it aint too bad just like that, but still want to run harley baffles for the straightpipe look. thanks for the help guys.
This is a follow up to to my post about the exhaust inserts. SO-CAL said that his banger ended up sounding like a lawn mower...........mine not so much but way way way way way too loud.......................thought I would let you all enjoy my O/T ( by one year...65 Corvair ) engine transplant and how it ended up sounding. Players in the video: Frank Jenkins...........old guy in white T shirt John Dayton ( hrm2k ).........good looking guy in the dark sweatshirt I see some mufflers in my near future
Your 'Vair sounds "bad-***", John! I think it would sound less loud outside of the shop where more noise could disperse. Give that some thought before you make the final decision on mufflers..........Don.
I did it on my 300 six, straight pipes with cycle baffles, works ok, didnt quiet it down much, but sounded like a pissed off airplane
I sold a few Fuel Moto Harley baffles on here last year..My brother owns the company so I can get more if anyone needs them....They work well in cone headers....
Quote:".thought I would let you all enjoy my O/T ( by one year...65 Corvair ) engine transplant and how it ended up sounding." Corvair sounds great (should be an exception for 65 Corvair as O/T seeing as so many early rods stole all their front suspensions and steering boxes) What engine are you running? Thanks
I have used loose rolled hardware cloth with a long bolt to keep it in. You can tune to suit and it is cheap.
So my inserts that ****ed really bad on my Corvair ( above ) ended up in my buddy's 53 Chevy with a low compression 350 chevy engine. Thsy worked great......cut the exhaust note by about 50 %.....still sounds good, just quieter !!!!!
4 speed man has harley fish tails with flame shooters sounds great cool as hell with flames shooting hopped up chev 6 split pipes
