I drove my truck to a recent show it drove up there fine. On my way back when I got over 50 it would stutter I'd pull over and it would be off. I'd crank it back up and it would drive for a little while and do the same thing. Any ideas what may cause this problem?

Probably either fuel or spark related. Could be so many things. Check out the ignition system closely and maybe throw a new condenser in there. I have had them go bad and do what you describe. Couild be a weak or overheating coil too, but those usually shut down totally when bad.

  3. Check fuel filter or any plug wires close to heat

  4. When was the last time you did points and plugs? also crap in the fuel tank could be the culprit. Maybe it is picking something up then when you shut it off it lets it fall again.

I had the same problem in my 49 pickup, small rocks in the fuel tank restricted the fuel line that ran out of the bottom of the tank. It could be simpler than that like a clogged fuel filter. Kinked fuel lines can have the same result. Divide and conquer, once you eliminate all the possibilites you'll figure it out.

Also check fuel lines that might be running close to a heat source. The heat will cause older fuel lines to collapse inside and when they cool they open up.Same thing with vacuum lines.

I would suggest you have a full load test done on the coil. Sometimes they do get tired.

  9. You gonna find a fuel issue is gonna happen most likely under load whereas cutting out from spark issues can happen anytime(load or not) ... you just need to lift the hood and start checking points and fuel bowl, etc ... something simple.

Too many variables. Is the truck original or a new build?

I recently had a similar problem in my '51 ford, replaced a lot of complicated things but the points were just out of alignment!

Are you running Fenton headers with no heat to the bottom of the intake? One of my friends found out the hard way that you can experience enough carburetor icing to stall out, even though the outside temperature is well above 32. Coast to the side of the road, engine heat melts ice, engine starts again and goes a couple miles before doing it all over again.
