I have been up to something. I'm opening another bar. I'm pretty bummed at the selection here in Raleigh and damnit I'm gonna do something about it. I closed the last one about 4 years ago and really kind of miss it....

It's going to be called Kulture...

and it's getting ready to get a complete makeover.... It's funny how redoing a space is almost like building a car to me... Tomorrow we start gutting the space.... Here's what it looks like right now..

Anyone that makes it this way is invited for a drink.... and since there will be wireless internet, you can cruise the HAMB at the same time...

Looks like an awesome start! I love old buildings, I view adaptive reuse as a form of hot rodding. I hope it fits with the decor to reuse that old tin ceiling - very cool.

Good luck, small business is awesome. I wish someone around here would open a bar or restaurant with a cohesive and well-executed theme. They'd actually succeed for a change!

    It's a cool old building built in 1946, so it's traditional... :D

If things go well I can get another section of the building and expand. It's kind of cool being able to start with a smaller space....

God bless any town with a bar that plays more than the latest Fiddy Cent, and anyone building the bar even more. I'd love to have a place like that around here. Best wishes, and enjoy your new baby.

There will be a definate influence... and a tinge of Art Deco styling....:D

Definately music, but light on the bands, the place isn't that big, but they'll show up occasionally....

I'm tired of places that are to loud, to smokey, to expensive, and shitty music...

There will be no Fiddy Cent, or Jay Z, or any of that other crappy rap shit.... Like Bruce Willis said in "The Last Boy Scout"... "you wanna hear me scream, play some of that rap music" :D

Corner of Cabarrus and Dawson, right downtown.... They're building the new civic center right across the street...

  11. Congrats, that sounds like a great project. Good timing with the new civic center going in, good luck. Shaun.

That is really cool! The inside kind of reminds me of a place here in Denver called the Skylark Lounge http://www.skylarklounge.com/index.php (check out the photos).

    Have fun!

    Zman,

I drove by the place last week and it is a KILLER location. It doesn't hurt that it's fairly close to work. :D I didn't see the interior till I saw your pics tho... COOL SPACE! LMK if you're gonna be rennovating over there one night after "the day job", and I'll swing by to lend a hand.

I should be over there tomorrow evening if you want to swing by. There's a bunch of demolition to do first... :D

Thanks for all the support... I'm pushing to see if I can get her open in about 6-8 weeks... In know it's pushing it and I'll know better next week if it's realistic or not...

Except I'm back in Whitehall, two hours from Mount Miserable. I wish I had the startup capital. I could really make a go of a tourist trap in Whitehall - or just ride the wave of redevelopment in bombed out downtown Muskegon.

Careful with the name. People might think that it's the Kulture "club" and you may end up with some Boy George fans. JK
