Been looking quite a bit at the dorman Rams Horn manifolds that have the 2.5" outlets. There is a driver and passenger side. I plan on grinding off the accessorie tabs but is there any difference to the sides. Summit has them for 47 each but I don't know if i should get a driver or passenger side or two of the same. I have heard both ways. Is one side a different size or have a different pipe connection? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rnb-674-503/media/images
Driver side has mounting holes on the front in some applications. If you are not using them get right side.
Are the images shown on this link backwards (mirrored)? Pretty sure they are because the mounting tab is normally at the left front corner of the engine.
Some left hand maniflolds dump towards the rear while most rights dump straight down (SBC) check your needs.....
The 2 and a half originals were only made in a strait down dump. I think only `64&`65 Vett 300hp-375hp. Some `64 full size Chevy with 327/300hp had the 2 and a half also
Just bought a set a couple weeks back. Only diff. in them-other than the flg. mount-is the pass. side has a hole and tube in it for the heat riser. Depending on what you want, grind off the flanges, smooth 'em up and they're great. I ported mine to match the heads--think they flow as good, if not better, than any shorty type headers. cooger
get two drivers side and cut the bracket off the passenger side (which will be at the back), keeps the front side looking nice
Not a bad idea. The price isn't too bad compared to what some guys are asking for used ram horns at swap meets.
The drivers side manifold pipe flange is shaped to accept the "exhaust doughnut" that fits on the manifold pipe. The passenger side is flat and doesn't have a provision for the doughnut. The passerger side is designed for the "heat riser valve" the bottom of which has the proper shape for the doughnut. The passenger side will also need longer studs to accept the valve and pipe collar. Unless you need the heat riser valve, go with the left, drivers, side manifold. If you need a mounting bracket on the passerger side, get the right manifold. You can plug the hole for the choke heat source with a pipe plug or set screw. Just be sure to get plug both holes.
I've always wondered, can you use a flat gasket like a header collector gasket on the pass side flat flange?
No new project. Just tearing down the bucket for some reworking of it. Changing out the open headers for something less damaging to my ears and a little better looking. Must be getting old. Thanks for the information. I'm looking to just cut off the accessory brackets and running straight dumps, then straight pipe back and exit out the side some. After doing some additional reading. Ive heard to get the driver and passenger, grind off the accessory brackets and flip them per side so the grinded portion faces back. I was mostly concerned that the dumps were the same length, size, connection type.
From the looks of the dorman ones. The pipe flanges look the same for both sides. Am I wrong? That was my main concern.
I agree^^, the picture looks like they are both the same. I always like to "see it in person" to be sure.
I looked them up on my local parts house website. They showed lefts and rights, both with the accessory brackets.
