1956 f100 I use AutoCAD 3-d, inventor and solidworks all great 3d software. I put together models with thousands of parts and don't know how I would ever go back to 2-d. I have never used alebre but maybe I download it at home just for the hell of it. I think this technology makes us better hot rod builders and also makes the cars safer.

I dug out my old sign cutting system and it will generate G-code. So now we need to figure out the connections to the Burny system. If any of you have the full manual, please contact me (v8steel) or (house of fab). We're missing some sections of the manual. THANKS!

    Nice job 51J. I built my 4' x 4' cnc cutter too.
V8STEEL, I am using Autocad to draw my brackets or what ever and Sheetcam (200$) to generate the Plasma cutter compatible GCode from the drawings. I then use MACH3 (150$) to run my stepper motored machine (and the late 70's restored cnc Bridgeport in my avatar).

These are both hobbyist softwares so don't be intimidated by them.

    Sheetcam here: http://www.sheetcam.com/
    MACH3 here : http://www.machsupport.com/

Both softwares can be downloaded as demo versions and this is what I did to test my cnc table before springing for the full versions.

The GCode for a plasma table needs needs torch height and torch start/stop GCode lines so I'm not sure your vinyl cutter software will help you generate these.

Some vid clips of scratch-building my plasma table here:

    O.K. Fellas,

So we're ready to continue trying to get the Burny 3 system going.

Can anyone tell me how to get a G-code file into the burny system?

We have a manual that is missing the first 3 sections and the index indicates that LOADING FLOPPY is in section 3.

Our manual is pretty ragged and not so easy to copy the entire thing but hopefully I can fill in some of the gaps.

    v8steel,

I had a Torchmate for several years too and had the same disappointments in the software... a**** other things like motors burning up and tracks getting clogged with slag and aluminum dust. I have moved from the thermal dynamics that I had to replace every 2 years to a Hypertherm 65 and haven't looked back.

Anyway, I run BurnTables CNC machines at my shop. I'm also a dealer. We use HyCAD for drawing, SheetCam for converting to DXF format and Mach3 to run our machines. The same software runs my CNC router, engraver, and plasma tables. There are some pics and more info on my website if you're interested.

I use mine mostly for what Mgermca has posted up - tool building. Of course, I have a bunch of customer work that keeps me busy and away from my own projects. Hell, I even rolled my Henry J project out of the shop to complete one. So, if anything.... This thing has slowed my Car Building process and in fact will be the ruining of my LIFE! :p

I use the later 2 also on my home built hobby table only difference is I us. The cad is the harder thing to get a grasp on I personaly use http://www.emachineshop.com/ they offer a cad program and it will export a dxf file. This file can be pulled into Sheetcam.
