I saw one in a 55 at Indy a few years ago.Yellow and white stock paint scheme with green interior. The engine compartment was filled with a 426.Bitchin!Another friend has a 56 with a 392.Actually a 392 is about an inch wider then a 426.So by all means do it.
It's under construction as we speak,I just want to get the chassis ready so I can get the cash together for the trans and what ever else I need for the install, the motor is fresh just has to be assembled,I hope for this summer or the fall but I have to see how my funds are,if I sell two of my bikes I'll have more than enough cash to be ready for summer!but we'll see.....
They have the mock up block in the car, front cross member was notched out and he installed the engine mounts still a lot more has to be done, but it's coming along
My buddy had one but it had a tilt front he finely sold me the motor put in a nail head and sold the car.
Project is on hold for a while I had some medical issues first the prostate cancer scare, then crushed my hand at work,so haven't been able to work on it! the engine and trans were fitted and headders made for it but it's sitting in the garage. I went back to work in February after 6 months off and have to play catch up but once I get caught up it has top priorty
Glad you're on the mend, Baron here on the HAMB has a 55 with a blown early hemi. "Quick Trip" is the name on the car IIRC.
Went to a car show and saw a 57 sedan kinda kicked up in the front end, looked like a pan was a little low on it---yep, 426 hemi in it! That might be the only issue, pan clearance--but a custom one could solve it. Otherwise it sure looked (and ran) VERY cool-super B/A. cooger
We put a Kerns Built 429 & C 6 into a 1980 El Camino, tubbed 9 " ford rear, suicide doors.........a fun ride.
Back in the day...1967 if I remember correctly, I helped my buddy put a 392 in a '57 Chev Sedan Delivery. We screwed up with the engine mounts and the hood wouldn't close, no problem....who needs a stinkin' hood anyway. The push button automatic worked well, the car was eventually sold and my buddy killed in an industrial accident 10 years later. That old '57 was a way cool ride...
Thank you to whomever posted the pics of Roth's '55. I completely forgot about that car...oh how I loved that car when I was a kid.... The 426 in a tri five ain't new at all. When that motor came out, they found there way into almost everything.....Even seen one in an old farm truck for hauling sugar beets.. Hell I remember not too long ago a flathead ford powered 67-8 Camaro for Bonneville...
I'll get some pictures up as soon as I can like I said I didn't do the setup for the Hemi I had someone do it for me,theres not much to look at but with the overtime I've been getting at work I'm going to use some of that to pay the boys at the machine shop to start building the motor.
