Awsome ....thanks for the info, ill definitely check that out....I haven't been able to crawl under the car yet to check things out but I do know that the previous owner cut the springs to lower it a little....my problem is I want it to sit even lower than that (just for this summer while I save up the money to really drop it the right way)...so hopefully this will lead me on the path of accomplishing my goal getting it to sit lower without having to spend so much money right away

And sevenevez...that's a real bummer about the weather man I don't know what I'd do if they cancelled goodguys columbus...I'd probably cry a little...that and the autorama are two of the biggest highlights of my year, I'd be less upset if christmas got canceled....although it have to be pretty bad for the to cancel either of those....autorama's inside and it rains almost every year at goodguys columbus....two years ago my boss had to drive home in his rambler convertible (before we made his carson top when there was no roof at all) and had to wear goggles just to see cause it was raining so hard....he had an umbrella too, but that didn't make it too long...lol

A word of caution... Cut springs suck as you probably already know. Aerostars will you get you down 2.5" from stock, but a few guys who've cut them to get lower regretted it.

For cheap and low you can do the Aerostars and flip the uprights (upside down and left to right), then bend the steering arms. Rocky did a good write-up on this several years back.

Flipping the uprights isn't really a simple mod, and a few guys have mentioned they should have just bought the Fat Man uprights.

Just food for thought, hope it helps you some.

Help: Lookin for some direction here. I let someone drive my car and they obviously were trying to find gears and force it. So my 4 speed is real mushy now and very hard to find the gears. What am i looking at to repair this?

An overdrive would suit you well if you do much highway driving. Of course the EASIEST thing would be rebuild the 4 speed, but you don't seem to take the easy way out. ;)

First thing is kick the friend that did it.. It will make you feel better... After that I am not sure, but I agree with Daddio and go with the OD unit.

This would be a good start, but if the teeth are chewed up you'll be looking for a lot more than this kit provides. Drop the trans and look inside. Hell, take it to a reputable trans shop and ask them what it looks like.

And kick said friend in the junk as suggested.

Great thread, took two nights but I read the whole thing and came out with some great ideas too. Nice looking car!
But wait!! Don't give up on the transmission, they are awful hard to kill, it's very likely the shift linkage that is damaged look for bent rods and that sort of thing before ya crack the tranny.
    Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the advice. i nbeed to jack it up and see what it looks like. Last time i checked the rods/linkage looked decent. I need to put my steering rebuild kit on it someday too

Couple quick questions...was reading some other threads about bagging the front suspenion on their 49s...they had bagged theirs the same way you did and were complaining about the way it rode at highway speeds...have you had any problems with the way yours rides at any speed....that and they had complaints about where they had to mount their shocks, you might of already addressed this and I plan on going back and checking but figured I'd ask anyways.....2nd...do you forsee me having problems going back to do it the right way with fatman dropped uprights if I flipped my stock uprights for the time being...and 3rd what kind of rear setup are you running...is it a 2 link? I've skimmed through a couple Times and saw your pictures but don't see you explaining it...what kind of mods did you have to do to get them in (modified trunk floors or rear seatpans)I had planned on eventually running a for link but everything I read said you had to do some major cutting to get it in... sorry for all the questions but you and this thread are my only real references at this point in time

I'll tell you one thing, if you flip the uprights and bend your steering arms correctly, there's no need to go with Fat Man uprights.

whew, thats a long question man haha. and unfortunately, i traded web work in trade for the air suspension work on my car. it's a panhard cantilever setup i believe. the fatmans plug right in but you can save a fat chunk of change if you do what daddio said. there is good threads here on how to do it. the drive tunnel had to be redone for clearance. and i dont even want to begin how much of a PAIN IN THE A$$ it was to get my front wheels to clear my headers. that musta been the biggest headache. the rears are a very tight squeeze. and i have pounded every last millimeter outta the metal to get em in there. but shes solid now. sorry, i hope some of that helps.
