  4. I'm impressed!

As far as the durability of materials is concerned, by protecting with a VERY high quality uv resistant clear, I don't see a problem with the longevity of the color.

What you are trying to replicate would seem very difficult to communicate through digital pictures.

It sounds like chopolds is willing to give you the time to make what you want to happen happen with the type of materials you want to use.

That might be worth a drive, even if the only thing you get in return is a fun road trip! :)

    Why don't we test the longevity of the paint in the following manner;

    1. I'll send you my car
    2. You prep, prime, & paint at no cost (this is for the sake of 'science' after all)
    3. I'll pick up my car & take it back to Texas
    4. I'll drive the wheels off my newly painted car - showing it often and subjecting it to the harsh Texas Gulf Coast environment.
    5. I'll send monthly photos of how nice the paint is holding up
    6. You'll enjoy seeing all your hard work and can bask in the glow of proving all the naysayers wrong.

    deal?

  6. Well G that sounds like a great deal for one of us. Lets make it better

Maybe if you had 2 samples to do it would be better because the results wouldn't be a one off fluke that needed repeated any way.

Pics would need to be taken bi-daily, along with weather reports , submitted monthly. That way. That way a time laps video could be compiled from the pics. The pics need to be taken of the car in 4 consistent views and freshly washed.

All kidding aside - thanks for the offer

Judging by the pic, start with the Hyundai Black Plum, turn the purple toners to red ones, add more transparency to make it more blatant.

Both the Honda and Hyundai colors I suggested are much more subtle than the effect you have produced.

    A damned nice look!

  8. Thanks man !
    I did research those colors.
    There's mica in the black

One of the most important thinks to me is to not put anything in black.
This doesn't "look or appear" black -it is black & black as black can be black. It's vibrant pure black like centari pitch black. It's 3 miles deep black.

Mica, pearls, and metallic in black isn't like that.

In a dark garage, with a only flashlight up close you'll swear it's red !

I know it is a great deal of work and I haven't tried black candy on it, but, HOK F-20 red flake is an incredible base to work with. I can tell you don't need any paint advice, but just so we are clear(pun intended), top coat the flake w/clear, sand smooth, candy... It's at least worth a test panel.

I wasn't sold with the first batch of pictures that you posted, but the buffed out ones... Oh wow I understand why you have a hard on for this color... Exquisite!

  18. Well I had two more major player paint reps try and match the red.
No go !!! They were formulation experts and couldn't do it.

You know, I've got a truck that might just fit that fender. Too bad it wouldn't look good with the turd brown of the rest of the truck.

  20. An update -
this fender has spent over an entire year outside 24/7. Its been threw some nasty weather, thrown around, fell over, blew across the parking lot, screwed to the wall .....
Except for a few scratches and bird **** stains it looks and flops same as the day I painted it.

I can't remember if I already commented about this on the thread...

But in case others are thinking of spraying spray paint in a gun... It is VERY easy to empty the spray cans.

Of course for legal reasons, this should only be attempted by fully trained professionals wearing complete protective PPE gear... Not for the kiddos or the insane.

1). Shake the spray can well to fully mix the contents.

2). Lay can carefully on its side with the side seam face down for a few minutes to allow the paint to settle.

3). Lay several shop rags over the can and then carefully pierce thru the can with a screwdriver type awl. Slowly pull the awl out of the can and allow the pressure to fully escape. If you position the rags carefully, you won't wear the paint, but don't forget your safety goggles!

4). Use a fresh razor knife and slice a "door" opening on the side of the can (towards the bottom. I like to make a 3 sided 1" square cut and then just push the "door" in.

5). Now carefully pour your paint into a chosen container. You will encounter a marble or two. I like to clean and collect these. Most are nice gl*** marbles.

    Be careful. Have fun!

Hate to pull up an old thread, but any outcome? I just sprayed my dash with metal specks red, and I'm digging it!
