I recently purchased a 62 bel air 2 door post. I love the look of the car, and knew I was in for a complete restoration including a complete floor, and lower quarters. My problem is, now that I started stripping the car, I have found that the entire drip rail is rotted, gone! I don't think the car will look right with shaved drip rails, but am lost when it comes to fabricating new ones. The PO had fibergl***ed the stainless drip trim to the body and painted over it, I knew something was fishy there, but was not prepared for how bad it is. Please help. I do not want to abandon this project, but I need to be able to overcome this to make the car nice and worthy of all the time and money I am putting into it. Thanks for any help, maybe some pictures of how you did your repairs?
Also, Anyone have any input on custom drip rails made from round stock welded in and blended for a custom look? I saw one other in a search here and thought that may be the way for me to go.
Cl***ic Industries, or Eckler's has reproduciton weld-on drip rails for a '62 hardtop...I'd bet if you have any skills you an adapt those to your sedan... Using round rod will work too...just go slow in welding them to thin sheet metal... R-
thanks guys. I guess it's not really that big a deal now that I have researched it a little more. I was just caught really off guard because the rust was so well disguised
