Hey guys, I just got a 63 f100 and I'm wondering what to do to get it so the rockers are about 4-5 inches off the ground. I'm 18 and don't have much money, so i can't just buy a mustang II front suspension setup for the thing. If at all possible I would like to just use the suspension on it and modify it, but I don't know these trucks so any help I can get is appreciated.

Droppedaxle.com and an axle flip with a c notch in the rear. You can remove leaves from the leaf packs also

Ok, and I know that you can reverse the eyes on the springs too. Would that help?

Look at a jag xj6 also.
I would drive it as is and save some money, make a plan on paper as to what you really want, then start acquiring parts.

Thanks, and I did know that. I just need to cruise the junkyards to see if I can't find a spanked one for cheap. But that would be ideal.

This is good advice as well, especially if you feel there's a chance that you'd like to go lower in the future and add power brakes and steering. In that case a great option is an Industrial Ch***is Dakota kit, by the HAMB's own eLPolacko: http://www.industrialch***isinc.com/

You can also find lots of info over at www.slick60s.com. :)

Or there's a social group here on the HAMB for the 61-66 trucks: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=173

Yeah that's true, on the height issue I don't think I could have it any lower and be able to drive the thing, which is the objective. And I love the idea of going the old school hot rod route and using the original parts... and i'm sure after driving it some i'll want power steering and brakes, but that will come in the future. But I'm getting the truck for free so i don't want to put much money into it.

I removed every other leaf from the spring pack on the front and it lowered it a good 3 to 4 inches. I would leave the first 2 in place then remover every other one. I tried to do the flip in the front but the axle ended up hitting the oil pan. I plan on doing a flip in the rear here soon. I have hear some saying it will not hit the bed bottom or frame rails but it all depends on how old and beat your sping PACk is. This is by far the cheapest route I have found, any semi truck garage should be able to make you new u bolts, I think the four I needed for the front was under $30. When I do the rear here in a week or so I will to a tech on it. Good luck hope it helps.

That does help, Thanks. The oil pan dilemma is one that I'll have to figure out, but I'm going to pull the I6 in it and pop in either a vortec 4.3 out of an s10 or a 302 windsor , so I'm going to have to locate/ fab mounts for the motor anyways. And as for the back I figure I'll have to C-out the frame rails in the back to get it to be the right height. But again thanks for the advice, and I'd love to see how yours comes out

BIGREDTODD's thread was exactly where I was going to point you to as well. And if you don't know, that's the very truck the Tim McMaster runs at Bonneville and Muroc at 140+ MPH, so it works VERY well.

You want to do it cheap find an old camaro use the front stub flip the rear with blocks and a frame notch.

I don't think you can get the rockers 4 inches off the ground with the stock straight axle good luck.

Yeah, I'm so glad that somebody brought it up, It's basically a step by step how to for these trucks. And it went that fast? wow, but it seems extremely well thought out

Oh... I did not know that, I meant no disrespect to anyone, and hopefully no one got offended. The only reason I say that is that it's sitting in the yard so it's a rather low cost option

There is nothing "traditional" about using S10 parts to build a hot rod, and many of us cringe at the thought.

That doesn't mean you'll go to hot rod hell, but you'll catch plenty of flack here for it.

S10 clips are better suited to "street rod" or "rat rod" builds in most cases. That's not to say you can't build a nice truck with S10 parts, but chances are it won't be well received here... especially with a 4.3 V6.

To see how Todd and Tim's truck ended up (and current progress) follow this thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=573420

Don't worry, you haven't ruffled any feathers yet.

Yeah, I'll agree that it is a little like going to a nice restaurant and just pouring ketchup on whatever you get. If I can we also have a 302/351, not sure which, that I would love to throw in it, but it may be used for something else. And if that 4.3 does go in it won't stay there long. But thanks for the heads up.
And I have checked that thread out, that truck is SWEET!
