Projects DRSS's '31 Coupe Build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by DirtRatsSpeedShop, Mar 16, 2013.

  1. Hey all, im starting a build thread now because I'm actually starting to get closer to having something worth sharing. So I purchased a '31 5w coupe on leave in Nov. Since then I have been purchasing main components to get this thing going when I get home in July. I bought the "ultra low" frame from Speedway due to me not having the facilities or the confidence to build something with such needed precision. My plans are rebuilt 350/350 with a clean, vintage look to the engine, (script valve covers, no chrome, etc.). Ford 9" with disc brakes, chopped +/- 4.5"-5", channeled over frame, cowl steering with a new corvair box.... I have a "still needed list" which is quite daunting when looking at it but its not too bad.... So far I have: body, frame, engine, rear, dropped axle, front brakes, all front suspension, wheels and tires are in route (black walls)... I'm currently in the Middle East, so updates will be sorta slow until July but I will post the pictures of what I get in the mail until then...
Here is my needed list that I will be checking off as I go...

Your gonna get some flack from guys who will say, "Put your own frame together; and Speedway buys it's **** from China; and yada, yada, yada..." You got a great start and that frame and crossmember work looks great.

I picked the Speedway T frame for my ride for 300 bucks delivered (to a UPS Depo in my area) when they had a shipping and blowout sale. I did cut the hell out of the frame to get the body and front end as I wanted them, but the frame they sent me was well constructed and the welds were very clean.

Secondly, you now own one of the hottest bodies out there. I wish I never sold my 31, 5 window. The only thing I would pick over an A coupe is a B coupe; but we all know how that song goes and how much it costs to even hum a few bars!

Great luck to you; have a ball buildin' her!

Anxious to see how the body sits on that frame.. Should be a fun build...

  5. ya, I would love to build my own frame but i want my first real rod not to kill me :) personally i like a nicely built A over anything, yes i know its blasphemous and i think im a minority in that, but oh well... thank you im looking forward to it more and more!!!

i am too, i wanna know what the front kick will look like..... i hope i like it.

if i dont i still have my FIRST project waiting to be built... a low slung modified roadster, flathead, and i think im gonna go for 32 rails....

and thanks for all the kind words guys!!!
