A couple of ways to do this. On my car, I bought a set of Fenton cast iron headers and had the rest custom made. The best way to go. You could, however, get one of the kits that have the blockoff plate for the passenger side and the "loopty-loo" pipe on the drivers side. And you still have the problem of doing the drivers side pipes and mufflers. Do it right and don't cheap out
Thanks for the reply, anyone know how to do it with manifolds without the loopty-loo and block off? Are there any designed for dual exhaust? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
ll that stuff was cheep 40 year ago, whitney, sears and most other places too the tubular headers proabbly were mostly used, they were about $10 they may have went up in price lately
IIRC, they had a factory police option for duals in the early '50's. I believe the drivers side manifolds were being re-popped. Google is your friend.
Several manufacturers of aftermarket heads for flathead engines -- some with rear dump (Reds?), others with center dump (Speedway et al). Fenton's cast-iron models have consistently given me FITS with the fit. I'm currently using some center-dump models available thru Speedway. But -- as has been said already -- you don't really want to do this on the cheap. Pay to have someone build you a good-fitting, good looking set of exhaust pipes to go with whatever headers you choose to go with. Was gonna load a couple of pix of mine, one before installation with Eastwood hi-temp paint on the exhaust and Porters, and another after they were hung on the car. But the files are to fat. If you want to see the pix, shoot me an e-mail at garrycarter1111@gmail.com
you can look for some truck manifolds, they are front outlet, and do not have the crossover to the other manifold.
A few years back, Bob Drake was selling a reproduction of the LH manifold that was sold over the Ford parts counter for dual conversions. The outlet was about 2/3 of the way to the rear, rather that sticking straight out the front.
Check Red's Headers. They sell vehicle specific headers for a lot of different Fords & Mercs with flathead. They may sell the exhaust too.
I had some clearance issues with just about any set of manifolds or headers in my '33 stock car (has an 8BA in it) and I ended up using a set of '33 - '34 (might be other years too) set of stock cast iron manifolds. They do not cross over, and dump right out in the front. Might not be your best option, but still one to consider.
I used Red's Headers on my 51. Fit and finish was very nice. Then took to muffler shop and had custom system fabbed up.

Yes, I agree it needs to be done right, that's why I'm re doing it! If I bought the Bob drake re pop where could I buy the pipes and mufflers? Does anyone know if pat Rooney still makes them and how to contact him? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
