We have this nice old 31 pickup with 43,000 miles on it. It's been in storage for many years and is very solid, original and complete. The paint (except for the tailgate) is all original and we want to do as little to it as possible. The major issue is the driverside fenders that sun-cracked due to setting next to windows for many years. We would like to find a good way to remove the surface rust and keep the paint, then put something on them to keep them from re-rusting. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks
Damn nice truck and garage. I like the art on the walls, must be a unique home. I will let others help with preserving the finish, no first hand knowledge here. All the best, Dale Cleveland OH
I would try CLR and then keep it oiled. BTW could you take a detailed shot of how the taillight is mounted? I've got a 31 widebed as well and no one can seem to tell me how the rear light was mounted.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll try to get the picture of the tail light mounting in the next few days.
After replacing wiring, ignition parts, rebuilding carb, and cleaning gas tank, the old truck runs pretty good. She's cleaning up pretty good, good history marks and blemishes. Some parts have been brush-painted and that kind of fits it too. I won't do much more, just drive and enjoy.
I see by the marking on the door, that truck is green (with an old school g!). like what was said, damn fine truck!
they definitely do exist. widebeds with soft tops were built between May and July of 1931. I've got one too. BTW truck looks great!
