Hey, Im sure one of you guys will know the answer to this right off.
Is a half ton straight axle from a 58 apache the same as one from a 55 pickup? My truck is 3/4 ton, the guy I bought it from has a half ton axle from a 58 that he will just give me so I can convert to 5 lug with car hubs, I'm assuming it will bolt right in, right?

    Thanks.

  4. A 1955 (second series) 1/2 axle should be the same as a '58 1/2 ton axle, I believe. The shock mounts might be different, I'm not sure, but I know they use different shocks.

Whether a 1/2 axle will bolt directly in place of a 3/4 axle or whether they are the same, I don't know, I've never tried it. Better get out the measuring tape and do a side by side inspection.

This post probably doesn't help you a helluva lot, does it? :D Well at least it bumped this to the top.

  5. Why not check the bearing numbers and To see if their the same. Might not have to change the setup

If the 55 is a second series (task force) they are the same. Shocks would be different for the 1/2, 3/4 etc. because of spring height. Mounts the same.

yep its a second series, Its the truck in my avatar. Good to know the axles are the same. The guy is just gonna give me the half ton 58 axle :) As for the shocks, I can get the right ones and/or modify the mounts for it as long as the axle bolts in.

    Thanks alot

You are going to want the half ton springs along with the axle if you can get them.
