    Hello gents,

I am collecting parts for my build and a buddy sent me this picture of a frame he an across and i need a little help identifying it. He says 35 ford, owner says 36 Plymouth...... I need to find out so I can get the dimensions and see if it might work.

    Thanks, Jim

I had a '36 Plymouth.... The front brackets for the bumper look the same, the semi- elliptic springs are Mopar and if the front axle is tubular (although it's been spun around to make a trailer...they were 'rear steer') which it appears to be in the photo, looks like it has tubular shocks ....then I don't see anything that would tell me it's not a '36 Plymouth. NOT a Ford though.....

parallel leaves make it NOT a ford, owner is probably right.

Hi, I believe that it is a 37 Plymouth or Dodge because of the bumper mounts, the number of body mounting brackets, and radiator support design. It is not a 36 even though the bumper mounts the same way, the radiator support bracket is different, and the body bolts through the top of the frame in 36, not into added on brackets like 37 and later. 38 looks very close, but I believe the bumper mounts differently (to the sides instead of into the ends). The wheelbase will tell if it is Dodge or Plymouth. Hope that helps, Bob

Yeah, I was looking to use the frame and x-member, maybe trade or sell off the other parts

You wouldn't happen to know the dimensions of 37 would you?

That looks real close to the mid/late 30's Dodge frame that was part of a cutaway ch***is that was in the Top*****h, Highschool Auto shop when I was a student and when I taught there and still may be in the physical science lab there. In the 50's each student in the cl*** had a part in building it and cut the whole thing apart with hack saws including enough of the engine block to be able to see the piston go up and down.
It had that same tube axle too.

If that front axle has a dip in the middle of it, it's good property. But the rest of the mechanicals are basically worthless.

The center distance between the front bumper bolts should be 27 3/4". The overall width at the very rear where it splays out should be 51 7/8" but just forward of that it is 48 1/4". From the front spring shackle pivot hole to the rear most bumper mount hole should be 161 3/8". Center to center of the first body mounting bracket holes (base of firewall) should be 33 5/16". And the wheelbase should be 112" maybe slightly different if there's no weight on the ch***is. ALL these dimensions are for the 37 Plymouth, 37 Dodge is 3" longer (widths should be the same). Hope that helps, Bob

It appears to have a round tubular front axle. Old mopars had that.

The bracket on the front could be for an engine mount. That would also fit with the "floating power" mounting that the 6 cylinder engines in old mopars had.

Bob- thanks, I'm trying to go look at this today and I'll compare the measurements. In the mean time I'm gonna go check my body and see what I think.

Looks like a '37 Plymouth frame. Built one for a customer, not too long ago:

Well just an update, I went to look at it and it is in pretty good shape but won't work for my 27. Not sure if its dodge or Plymouth but the owner thinks they were the same and the measurements match what bobper posted up. Thanks for the help and if any of you need this frame he's asking 500 (I'd expect it to go for 350ish) hopefully someone can use it, it's in Ennis, tx

Its an original 27 T roadster I loaded some pics in my album ....I was leaning towards an A frame but now I'm thinking about going with a custom DIY duece style frame similar to SamIyam did here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305273 just personalized a little bit. I'm wanting to keep it traditionally flavored but with my own take of it all
