The bending down to pick up something or getting on the creeper is a major event. Don't ask about getting back up. The last few years I was the "old man" at work. Kind of a "badge of honor" because I usually knew what to do when I was asked. Although the boss told me I looked like a 100 yr old man when I got up off the creeper. I can laugh about it now.

What we need is a pneumatic creeper that raises and lowers. :)

    BINGO WE HAVE A WINNER!!:D

I used to think nothing of spending several 16 or 18 hour days to get work done on the truck or Merc but now it gets done when it gets done and when it quits being fun and starts being work I quit.

I hope in the past 50 years of working on my hot rods I now have the patience to do it right the first time rather than be hell bent on getting it done to meet a deadline. Now I need to build a shop big enough to house a couple of recliners and a wood stove in the corner.

  5. you're getting old (and tired) when telling yourself this won't take long becomes if I plan ahead I don't have to do anything today.

I have a front seat from a late model Ford in my shop. Really comfy especially when working low down.

I now have a coffee before I head out to the garage.
Because..... Falling asleep while under a car waiting for the oil to drain, makes any oil change a two hour job.

I used to think of the categorically best place to put stuff away. Now when I store something the first place that pops into my head is where I put it. If it means my carb jets are in the medicine cabinet so be it, because that's where I'll again think to look. Seems to work

I'll be 60 this summer, and can still keep up with the guys half my age at work.
    Suggestions:
-Maintain a sensible weight. Your heart and joints will thank you.
-Don't smoke. We all know why.
-Eat sensibly. This is huge, especially as you get older. Cut out all the fat, sugar and salt that you can. I went gluten free almost a year ago, digestive tract issues and joint stiffness and pain reduced 75%. I've never been overweight, but I know others who've lost huge amounts of weight by eliminating wheat gluten from their diets.
-Don't think you're too old to change your habits.

  21. you know youve got old when you are laying in a bathtub full of hot water relaxing after working on your junk all day, and your balls have floated to the top!

i used to stop on the way to work and get my coffee and junk for breakfast and chit chat with this cute blonde, after a week or so i noticed she was giving me a discount on my coffee and junk ... i checked the recipt and came to find out she had been giving me a senior discount!! i was 46 ... i still get teased about it to this day.

If I something rolls off the bench or the car I'm working on, if I'm not using it at that time I'll let it lay on the floor until I drop something else. No sense making two trips with these old bones.

I quit using creepers - too hard to get on & off - I use big sheets of cardboard - easy to slide on and off, in and out from under the car too.

  26. I have about 6 of every tool and don't panic till I am down to the last one. Where do they all go? Was driving one day and heard a ting-ting noise. Wife says: What was that? I says: Sounds like a half inch wrench. Backs up and sure enuff I was rite. She was amazed. Me, not so much, I looked everywhere for a couple of days for that damned wrench. Got to love getting old.

I use cardboard too, great for soaking up spills as well. Then I roll 'em up and put them in the wood stove. But I'm thinking of trying a gurney. They are bigger than a creeper, padded and when the ambulance gets here they can just wheel me right out.

i was having problems getting up from the floor too and occasionally still do; What has really helped is stretching; i don't do any of the exercises in this video except the calf stretches----still looking for a link on the specific ones i do,but i figured these would be good to get you started. Besides, i feel ANY stretching is good for you.

You can laugh, but they really do me good and i suggest stretching for everyone. These are especially good if you have an office job or any job where you're sitting all day:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaDXNjFjjnU

You must have discipline to do them everyday, and admittedly i don't have high discipline. But what i try to do is do them before getting out of bed and then after getting back home from work.

i am still looking for a link to the specific exercises that i do and will post them asap.

P.S. Without getting too graphic (i think you can use your imagination....) i was actually having problems taking care of certain hygienic needs...... i was also having problems tying my shoes. All solved with stretching!

Go ahead and try them----i think you'll feel that you just gave yourself a "tune up" if we can use a car analogy.

I know this has been posted here somewhere on another thread.

And it has it's own inherent hazards :D

But getting old and working on cars something like this would be fun to try, even though it is likely worth more than our cars. :)

It is appropriate for some of you guys who posted here. :)
