I just spoke to Dave and it seems the judging was terrible.. the judges clearly never looked at the build book Dave put together as they wrote on the judging sheet that there was unfinished fiberglass where the body met the chassis.
that's pretty hard to do on a original Herny Ford steel body. Great 8 politics I guess???

I wondered how it didn't even make great 8. Not that I'm a conspiracy theorist, or have any insight at all. But it seems obvious to me that it should have been heavily considered.

It's stunning. I'd love to see it being driven really fast. Maybe now that the Ridler is out of reach, he'll bring it to the HAMB Drags and do some smokey burnouts???

    ;)

  6. I love 60s show rods but for some reason it's not doing it for me.

The paint job would look better on a 64 Impala with gold wire wheels.

A panel paint job absolutely destroys the lines of a '34 Ford, but that car is still really, really cool. Ballsy move to do a paint job like that...the status quo will never "get it" but if you are gonna do something like that, you gotta do it right, and that fucker is perfect.

  11. Reminds me of the late 60's early 70's drag cars....I'll definately say it's different!

I'm glad to call Dave, Darryl and Beau friends! I love the car and wouldn't change a thing! But, then again, I guess I'm biased!!!!;)

Thanks for all the love, I'm very happy with the response... i'd much rather have built the car everyone remembers from Autorama, than have another trophy!

It is far cooler than any of the great 8 in my opinion. I looked at it for quite a while. It was in my top three of the upstairs cars. Well done...and I love the engine choice.

  19. butt ugly, cliche, and a caricature of itself. everything that the hobby moved away from. a faded trend.

    i love it.

seriously, i love it. everything about it, no matter how much of it i wouldn't have done myself. but i didn't build it, nor did i pay to have it built. that's the beauty of it. a couple of guys with the time, talent and finances to create something that has been executed to the exact point of expectation. it is a flat out bad ass hot rod err... show rod... uh... perfectly proportioned piece that would look great in almost any paint job.

    well done.

This coupe has had many lives as a hot rod - first built in the 50's and featured in Rod & Custom in the early 60's.

Chuck Vranas took some great photos of the car at the Detroit Autorama, in the new Rolls & Pleats (#39):
