32 pickup had the tank under the seat. The 33 pickup tank is the same as the car and I think it won't fit back there.
Straightpipes...thanks. I just checked Tanks and their measurements. Looks like the stock '32 tank is shorter (39") than the '33 (42 1/2")...so, I guess it doesn't!
True but nobody says you can't put a p***enger car tank in the rear of a 1932 pickup,,that's where mine is located.HRP
The next Ford tank narrow enough to go in there is '41-48. I've stashed one of those to try, but have not checked it out yet. Running the filler pipe of course may be an issue with any of them. According to the DeAngelis V8 book, Ford actually offered a version of the p***enger tank, presumably with a totally different filler pipe, as an option for commercials. I don't know of anyone who has seen such anywhere...
Thanks All....I was looking for a way to get the filler pipe out the side and not cut a hole in the top of my steel bed. I heard somewhere that a '47- '48 filler neck has a nice "s" curve that might work with the '32 car tank to get it out the side like the '33- '34s had.
I bought a cheap repro tank and just modified the inlet to go through the side of the bed like a 33-34. I did not want it to look streetroddy. Just me. I used a 39 Ford coupe filler neck to make it look like an old truck. You can see the slot for the filler neck.
sidevalve8ba....thanks. Yup I will probably do the same. How are you going to fill it? Through the bed or out the side like the '33 - '34s?
I used a 32 car tank in my Deuce pu. Used a 37 Ford filler in left side of bed to fill it. Only needed a short length of gas filler hose to hook it up. I welded the filler to the bed, works great. Could send pic if needed. Good luck. What a color !! :-0
I use a hinged, aluminum door about 6" X 6" in the floor of the bed at the left-rear corner. It has a Dzus fastener to keep it closed when not in use. HRP has what looks like something similar just not hinged.
here's what I am doing on my P/U roadster I did'nt want to come thru the floor of the bed I wanted thru the side like you do Some may not like the bottom outlets but they were in cars for a lot of years like that
Just my opinion : but the weight of the fuel is hanging by three bolts,, Me thinks the lips of the tank should be ON the frame. trying to help..
Flatlander, I would like to see photos of your truck's tank and filler. If anyone else has more photos, please post them. I am planning a '32 truck and would like to use a rear tank instead of the seat-tank, so any input is welcome. Sounds like a '32 p***enger car tank is a good choice. Just need some more photos of the filler options. Also, does anyone have close-up photos of the spreader bar + small bracket that bolts to the bed? I'll need to find or make those brackets and would like to see close-ups of the originals. Thanks.
There are 10" long L-shaped steel brackets under the lip of the tank. I't not going anywhere. With a plastic tank the lip is too thick to mount on top of the frame rail and still be able to bolt the bed to the ch***is.
On a '32 there is no spreader bar stock...adding one would be a good idea, probably welded or sandwiched with the bed support brackets. There's more than one sort of bracket; the ones I am familiar with would actually be easy to fabricate by starting with a piece of heavy 90 degree bent steel. If you cut them out of such, the edges would need a good bit of shaping but nothing at all would have to be done to the basic bend...they are just 90 degree brackets.
I've been toying with something very similar using a triumph spitfire tank. it comes with the bump already included. I'm going to center it over the rearend. sorry don't have pics. had to return my "test fit" tank to the owner. they're like $119 new!
