Hello All, I have a 1962 C-10 with the torsion bar front suspension. I have cranked it down a few inches but as some of you may know the bolts hang close to the ground. I have heard of "Indexing the Bars" where you pull the bar out and rotate them up bringing the bolts towards the floor of the truck thus giving more ground clearance. Has anyone done this before or have detailed instructions on how to? I have a good idea but don't want to tackle this with out some advise from someone who has done this before. Any info will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance
You have to have indexable frame keys. This is the part that goes on the end of the torsion bar. They make aftermarket ones that look like splines in the center. That way, you can set them at different angles, and adjust your truck higher or lower. Is this clear as mud now? If you google adjustable torsion bar, you will find pics
Yes, I have heard about the keys as well but wasn't sure if that was vehicle specific or not. I have had some say just jack up, loosen bolts, pull bars out a few inches, rotate and push back in then replace bolt, adjust to desired height. Sounded way too simple.
