Does anyone know anything about Capri V 6 motors with a standard trany. It runs good and i can get it for $60.00....I'm not sure about finding any part later if needed.

Talk to C-Word, I think he runs a Capri V-6 in his roadster.

  3. The Capri V6 is a close cousin to the V6 that came in some Mustang IIs. German made. Very high quality. I ran one in my Mazda rotary pickup for several years. Holly 500 CFM 2 barrel bolted right on. Other than that, and the headers that came with the swap kit, I ran it stock. Ran strong.

i don't know much about them other than what little has been said already, but for that price, if it's something you'd dig, go for it! my boss has a hot rodded capri, nasty sounding little bugger, he's runnin some high compression pistons, i think an offy intake and holley carb, headers, cam, msd, etc. runs on a mix of premium and race gas. i don't know about finding some of the parts now, but they WERE available at one point, probably cheap now from lack of demand...when you can find em!

The late model Ford 4.0 60 degree V6 Ranger and Explorer engines are direct decendants of the original 2.6- 2.8 Capri engines. Even the new 2005 SOHC Mustang V6 belongs to this engine family. Kinda cool to know the longevity of this engine family. A lot of potential exists in this engine design, just ask our European friends.

I used to own a Mercury Capri with that v6 in it. Bone stock it was a strong running motor for its time. I would love to find one and build a little modified out of it!

This little Chevette ran a 2.8 with a stock aluminium intake modded to fit a 600 Holley. (TIGed in spacer-plate) Had iron manifolds with the LS modified to clear the steering...into dual exhaust and it had an AUTOMATIC trans. The engine was totally stock otherwise.

With its 50 shot plate system it could destroy any of the new Camaros or Monte Carlo SS' etc of the time, and could easily run with them off the bottle!

In a lighter MOD...with headers AND a 5 speed along with the 4 bbl?

    WICKED.

    Yep,

Don't know much about parts availability though. I've never had to chase parts much.

I did have to replace the cam gears a few years back. The fibre gears shattered and I replaced 'em with an aluminium set.

Yes, grab it. Back when they were new these engines were the loved by tuners throughout Europe. Hot Rod Mag once described it as being "the Small Block Chevy of Germany". A high school buddy of mine had one in a Fox bodied Mustang. In stock condition it was almost as fast as the anemic 302 of its time.

  12. OK..lets address the important issues...
1st;they're almost as heavy as a SBF
2nd;years ago there was lots of goodies for them...might be hard to find now
3rd;fun little motor but no! torque!
4th; they also came with C4's(pinto,bobcat) but use a different bell housing
    than a V8
5th;distributor is at the back..so it might as well be a SBC!:(
6th;the 2600,you can reverse the exhaust maniflods side to side(for clearance probs)..but not the 2800
Dont get me wrong...just pointing out the negatives on them:)
Great bang for the buck tho.
When I was young I put them in everything..still have a 2600 in my 59 Thames.:)

There is loads of tuning stuff available over here for the Cologne V6, Janspeed did a twin turbo conversion for them back in the day and there is a twin turbo supercharged nitrous jobbie kicking around these parts somewhere. They are not overly loved though and tuning stuff turns up cheap on UK Ebay. Cammed on a 5 speed with correct gearing they will do the business. PS they're kin heavy .

  14. I had a 1974 Capri 2.8L v6 with a 4 spd tranny as my first car. I beat the living hell out of it, I squeezed a clifford reasearch turbo under the hood, performance cam, bored the block out to just under a 3.0 liter, raced it around SIR in WA, and drove it for 135k miles after I got it. Car was eventually wrecked and parts sold off it. The transmission was the weak link in my setup, not too bad considering I dumped the clutch to launch and learned to speed shift it at 5000 when I heard the valves start to float. Don't expect alot of torque, but the Capri was relatively heavy and it tolerated a lot from a punk kid.

    swdobbs.....

I cant get exited about those German Ford V6 engines.
But I've heard they are not as bad as the English V6 Fords.
I had a Van with a V4 version of one of those two and it wasn't that great either.

I would like to find a early Ford Capri though...
( To take the V6 out of and swap a V8 into it. :) )

My experience with seeing that little Chevette run for several years on the bottle says different...but I CAN see where your coming from despite that.
I think the problem was that people didn't (DON'T) have a clue about maintainance.

The 2.8's were solid lifter. When they started to tick people would say..."Will ya listen ta that frickin' junk motor! 20,000 miles and its noisy already...fuck the oil changes for this crap...I'll run it right into the ground".

And they did...complaining all the way as the poor motor ticked and sludged itself to an early grave.

Alex...been there! You'd LOVE it! 400 sbc street racer a friend and I built.
One of the cars that got away for me. Should have bought it from him when I had the chance. Ladder bars and a spool but drove ok. Wild on the quarter!
