Hey Dan, I like your bio section on your website. Underconstruction? Does that mean you are still making **** up for it? Good pics BTW
Thanks guys.I did a search last night and found Tman's original RwT post.LOL. Super nice car. I found a mini copy of the 1st HRD mag. It must have came packaged in another mag I had picked up at the time. I read it over and over. I was 22 or so when I read it. Comming from a muscle car and minitruck background I knew nothing about traditional rods and Kustoms. I loved it, everything about. Wish I had sold my stuff and found something then. I wish I had found the mag when it 1st came out. Not years later in a pile of old car mags my mom was going to throw out.
ha ha ha....i allways loved that picture of ness torqin the heads of a motor and lookin all OC sick boy/ball and chain serious!
Gotta admit thats hilarious no matter who Ness is. The HRDL-feature is weird. The 54 was a real eyeopener for me back then. The car is just so right; perfect stance, perfect chopjob, -I even dug the way the stock taillight brightwork was still in place, but with Lee (or Winfield)-lences. But then its annoying as hell too. The 54 looms in the background on the pics and you cant se what the front looks like. The type who did the interview didnt show the cars any interest at all, but let Ness ramble on about seriously cliche stuff; mostly about how ******** he is, "cruising the hood in his lowrider", wrenching on this really strong vette-mill and all that...
Honestly, it really doesn't matter to me if he built the car or not, all that matters to me is that is was built. One more absolutely perfect kustom around. The guy's love of cars is genuine, which is the way it's supposed to be. Not like these Good Charlottle poser *****es that use that shoebox more as an accessory like a studded belt than a vehicle. It's sickening. Weren't there pictures on here for Ness hanging out at a Social Distortion show with some HAMBers at a show? By as many accounts as I'v heard, the dude is pretty cool. If we're gonna bash Mike Ness for not building his ride, then Bob Hirohata is next on the chopping block
I grew up in the so cal area and Ive seen SD about two dozen times and Mike Ness has been pretty cool at the shows, I just think a lot of the "ol'skool rod guys" get caught up with the sick boy stuff and it gives the band and him a negitive image to some people here on the hamb. I think his chevy is bad *** and Id totally drive a Cole Foster car if I had the chance, but I also really like driving my own car cause Ive done all the work on it. So I see both sides of it. I do wish that if the guy is going to do an interview he could either talk cars and be more tech oriented or just talk music cause the "cruising the rough parts of Orange County" stuff is kinda silly.
Dude, I would put a Cole Foster car in my living room if I had a chance....I'm not sure what my wife would say but it is the truth. Larry
hell he's just another kid from egf highschool (east grand forks mn, a town so lame they to name it after the town across the river in north dakota) and rf i like your chev a lot more
I drove Cole around in my 54, I made him look cool Ness is just a guy that is out there for all to judge, in the public eye. I dig his car, he digs his car. I have always been into their music. I see no reason to slam him, dude has p***ion. He is a car guy and a music guy and can afford to have Cole work on his ****, thats kinda like having Frank Lloyd Wright do your house.
I met Mike Ness at the first Warped Tour, he'd just bought the Chevy and it was stock. I drove my '54 to the show and he came over and checked it out. He was a nice enough fella, he wasn't acting up or nothing. I bet there's embarr***ing pictures of you lot out there too.
Hey guys, Ill tell you what, I did the interview and article for Garage Magazine on Mike and the truth be told, there are few as down to earth as he. He would be the first to admit that he's not much of a builder, but he has helped out with much of the build of his '54 along with the other builds parked around his shop. The guy is famous and has some cash, but you would not know that if you did not know who he was and happened to sit and talk with him. He has a great p***ion for the american automobile, just as we all do. His '54 is absolutely beautiful. Cole did a flawless job on it. If you need more aboout specifics, check out Garage Magazine #6. Also, he has a website of his "glorified hobbyshop" as he calls it www.blackkatkustoms.com
The topic was about pics of Ness`s Chevy, Right? I want more! The man, his music and the car has been a great influence to me and my cars. So if anyone has more pics on his cars and bikes, i would appreciate if you would share it! Just love his -35 (36?) and the panhead..
100% CORRECT! Mike is a cool guy. he rolled into the shop last year when they played down here in tucson. i dont listen to social D religiously enough to know everylittle f'n detail about Mike Ness, but i had a beer with him once before in Santa Cruz (so i should know what he lookslike) so he rolled into the shop and we all started chatting and having a good conversation, till i realized who he was. that being said he was a very very cool mother ****er regardless if he is famous or not i dont give a **** about that. but a true genuine love for this culture. they guy loves cars and tries to learn anything thing he can (like most of us) one of our Phx chapter club members is like his biggest fan..lol..(we are always ribbing him about it) and Mike knows him by first name and always takes the time to hang out and chat. Im not standing here on my soapbox saying "Mike Ness rules" but **** man he loves cars! and justcuz he's famous dont mean you gotta kick the guy in the balls! imagine being him,...reading the H.A.M.B. the only thing remotely hot rod oriented thats cool on the internet, and he's gotta see this ****?....dont fool yourself, he HAS read this thread
Mike's a stand up guy. He's got taste. If he's in your town, point him towards the nearest antique store. When he's here in Seattle he's always great to talk to. Whatever happened to the 55 Poncho? Anybody know who own it now? That car was pretty tight.
Bein from Canada *where Social D doesnt play very often (if you are reading this Mike!) we dont't have much to judge the guy on a personal basis but I will say this -- who knows how a lot of those interviews were edited and the difference between what he really said and what was printed. Regardless I dont care if it is Mike Ness Brian Setzer or any other musician/skateboarder/actor maybe they dont have the time or ability to build a car but I know a lot of people who havent won eny skateboarding contests or sold a million albums. It dousent change whether or not someone wants or "deserves" to own a cool car. I really wish I understood why people need to run other people down.
