[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] So here's the question: If one were to find some boat seats or short old Jeep CJ seats & mount them on the floor would it solve the head-to-roof clearance problem? I'm 6'1 and would be screwed if you're 5'10 and are having trouble. Where there's a will there's a way, I suppose. [/ QUOTE ] I'm 6' 3" and i have some old T-Bird seats in my car and i have about 8 inches of headroom . My car is chopped silly . that is probably a good way to go . [/ QUOTE ] Thanks Mike. Can I get the spec.'s on your chop? How much from the front and rear? Looks real good.
My... That isn't -Mike-'s car. He has a green x4dr merc that's heavily chopped. Sorry if you already knew that but I thought you might have been confused by the pick of Keith Weezners shoebox...

I confuzed myself making that post
[ QUOTE ] a cool little club coupe with an interesting chop... [/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure I get that one. Did they just use shorter four-door front doors to lengthen the stubby coupe quarter windows? Or is it a four-door-turned-two-door using a coupe roof?
It looks to me like they took about 2-3" out of the top and slanted the b pillars. If you look at it they are the club coupe rear quarter windows. The 2 door sedans had big ol' honkin quarter windows with split glass (like the 4 doors). The club coupes had the same quarter window openings as the buisess coupes with the exception that they had pop outs and the B-coupes had fixed glass. Either way I think they did a good job on the chop seeing as how those coupes are easy to fuck up the proportions on due to the longer trunk.
By the way, 59ford, your car has a very simillar chop and taill light treatment as I car I once saw get in a really bad accident about 5 years ago in hollywood. Is it the same car I'm thinking of? If so, you would never be able to tell.

I just remembered I had 2 pics of it, so I thru them on the HAMB board.
Oh O.K. I thought it was yours. How 'bout you'r brothers coupe? what did he do to get it that low in the rear? c-section with air bags? just wondering.

[/ QUOTE ] The car looks traditional, but underneath is far from. The front is a Fatman Fab. mustang II. 1" dropped arms with bags. Inner fender wells raised and fire wall cut back 2 inches to clear the 15" wheels. The rear was bagged with a custom 4 link rear. Rear frame got a severe C section. The 8" Ford rearend was narrowed 2 inches. Gas tank was put on top of the floor of the trunk. Trunk floor raised also. Rear inner fender wells also raised to clear tires. Raised the drive shaft tunnel and modified the bench seat to fit.
i know you just said you only have two pix of that black car but does any one else have more pix of the grill? or something similar? it looks awesome tim
Dug thru my picture discs and came up with two more that where at the Rat Fink reunion. Sorry for the crappy quality.
am i mentally ill because i like this shoebox more than most of the ones posted? and of course this being my top fav and youd be fooling yourself if this one wasnt included is dropping a SBC a big deal in a shoe box? also,if i wanna cut my front coils? can i cut a few turns out???
sickoy, Dropping in a SBC is not too hard, the biggest issues are drivers side exhaust manifold clearing the steering box and i couldent fit a fan behind the radiator . I had to modify the manifold and use a pusher fan in front of the radiator, which i don't think cools as well.
thats cool, thanks for the info! i was just wondering cuz i was looking at the steering link(center link?) and it looked like it might get in the way with the oil pan oif a chevy??
read my post on how to build a cheep old driver the example used was a 50 ford with a sbc/350 combo check it out tim
Sickboy, the 302 is an easy fit with a rear sump pan also. Just set up some plate mounts on the front crossmember and your ready to go. I ripped the 302 out of my '51 to install the flathead back in, kept the C4 tranny idea though. The steering link will bite you in the ass with the wrong pan setup, cant even use a truck 8BA flathead pan in a shoebox car.
cooL, Tim,thats a good read,i read it this morning. leadsled, thanks for the advice. did you have to do anything to the tranny tunnel with the C4 ? a ford in a ford would be cool.i guess whatever i find first is going in it. also, about the chev motor,i was thinking if anyone has used the 60's nova oil pan and sump,i think its used for the same reason on early novas with the steering link in about the same position?

Thanks.
