Bought the car with an early model ford 302 in it and 3 speed aod. Only markings on the trans are "39" on the nose of the trans near the output shaft. My slip yoke had been leaking and when I pulled it I found it cracked. Now I need to find a new one.

Can't go to the ford dealer with no cast numbers. I can go to a local junkyard and pull another if I can somehow figure out what to look in?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

That looks like one I took off a 75 c4 Maveric. Counter weighted like a harmonic balancer, heavy! It's for high gear low engine rpm to cancel drivetrain harmonics. Driveline shop will take care of you, measure and count the splines. C4, AOD,T-5 I believe are the same just differant lengths, Hope that helps.

Forgot to say that it is probably not needed and should have a standard 1310 u-joint

I think I've got a twin to that out of my daughter's old 78 Merc Monarch six cylinder car.

As Johnboy34 Said you are probably better off to take it to a driveshaft shop than worry about getting one at the Ford Garage.

  5. If the snout looked better, I'd had given the advise of cracking the balancer on the other side with a hammer and getting down the road. Not the story in this case.
The easiest place to find a salvage yoke is most any Ford RWD p***enger par in the early '80s. If out of a Ford, the outside of the snout will measure 1.495". The full size truck slip yoke will use a larger u-joint as the Ranger will use a the same u-joint if the Ranger has the smaller engine options.
You also need to replace the bushing in the tailshaft housing of your transmission and may be looking at future transmission rebuilding based on the rough appearance of where the bushing has worn the pictured slip yoke.
2-3-8251X if you want to buy a new part.

Everyone that I know just smacks that ring with a hammer and tosses it. From the looks of your slip yoke I think I would be pulling the tailshaft and checking out the rear bushing. Good luck.

    Roger that,

Pulled the tail housing, replaced the seal and bearing put the housing back on and decided to check the slip yoke. I flipped it output shaft up and filled it with water. For some reason my slip yoke itself is leakig in the center by the u-joint. Guess I need a new one?
