Help guys! My brother has a 29 that he built in 1965 and has been sitting since 68. He's being convinced that various problems can only be cured by installing a new chassis, IFS etc. I DON'T want to see this happen. Main complaints are poor steering and handling. It was built with the original steering box moved, it has no front shocks! I've heard that mid 50's F-100 works good, your advice. He said the car would pick up the left front when he punched it, it's powered by a 58 283, slightly bored with a BW T-10 4 speed. HELP ME get the low down on how you built your A so I can keep this car traditional! Pic would be nice! I know there are a lot of cars out there with model A frames that drive well, so tell me what you did! HELP!
The problem probably is the weight of the engine and trans. The stock gear box is trying to steer through twice the weight and they weren't the best boxes anyway. New kingpins, steering knuckles, and a good box would make it work a lot better. hunt the wrecking yards or open the catalog is the best answer, the money you spend on a new setup will be twice it will take to fix what you have It also sounds like boxing plates are needed if not there already
Yes it's completely stock. I see a lot of aftermarket frames used here, does the stock frame need additional crossmembers? Isn't the F-100 steering adaptable? I've used the search feature on the HAMB, but there are mostly 32 or other chassis. Can't an aftermarket dropped axle be purchased ready for mounting shocks?
