http://www.ahramotorsports.com/Home.html I was always a fan of the "OLD" AHRA. It looks like they are going to try and bring the AHRA back again. I know the last attempt (2009?) was a failure. Looking at the cl***es there seems to be a lot of HAMB friendly stuff AA/FD, AA/FA and so on. Has anyone heard anything else about what these guys are doing to bring the AHRA back?
After seeing some of my good friends get burned by them not being paid for the Midland race a couple of years back, it will probably be impossible for them to get it going like it used to be. I wouldn't send them any money for membership!
The AHRA name vanished at the end of 2005, dislodged from its final refuge at Spokane Raceway Park. In late 2009 Rod Saint acquired the Trademark Rights to the historical 1956 organization and began an attempt to resurrect the organization, taking on partners, Jimmy Tice, son of the late Jim Tice and Troy Moe, nephew of former Spokane Raceway Park manager, Orville Moe. In 2010 as things began moving forward to re-organizing the AHRA, things began taking a turn for the worse when Troy Moe left racers in Midland Texas without being paid and racers in Marion Ohio with bounced checks. The AHRA is attempting to correct the wrongs by Moe in hopes of regaining the support that was lost in 2010 This is from thier website. I hope it dose work out. I was one of the guys who sent in money for a "membership" and never saw a thing. An alternative to the NHRA would be great. there's a bunch of people out there that can't or wont run any NHRA events. I think if the AHRA looks at what cl***es and who the NHRA has excluded it could help. Such as AA/FD without the CF brakes, a real AA/FA cl*** open up the engine rules to let non-GM and Hemi engines run in the fuel cl***es. Not to mention TF or FC that don't want to run the "Big Show." I would think the guys doing this would be open to a HAMB Dragster or G***er type cl*** if approached.
I really liked AHRA racing back in the day. I still have a rule book and a couple of AHRA "TACH" magazines from 1965. With the right people at the helm I think it's possible a resurrected AHRA could be successful especially if they were to become a more "gr*** roots" organization than NHRA and welcome H.A.M.B. friendly cars (and people). Time will tell!
Prob never going to happen--- Millions to get it going again and in todays economy- the lack of big series sponsors--- not much in return
i'd like to see it come back. i do watch nhra and try to watch ihra as well as adrl, but haven't seen much of either in a couple of years.
With the F.E.D. push going on, I think it will be alive and well. Probably pretty easy to start with the right folks. All my race buddies with door cars are now campaigning F.E.D.. Acohol, top fuel, even Glidden old EXP is in the mix. Look at the UMTR.... I think its AHRA's time.
Sure but what's the big deal with the AHRA name? Screw it, screw them, someone wants to start a HAMB-friendly compe***or to the NHRA they don't need the "A" name.
I don't see any rules. How does that work? Simply listing cl***es won't get very far. For those that think no rules is the way to go, no rules, no insurance. No insurance, no racing. That's not new by the way.
In 2010 they had pretty much the same cl***es with rules, but I'd imagine they would be looking into changes the NHRA, and IHRA made to thier rules so they could update their rules before they publish them.
Are they planning to build or get any tracks here on the west coast? I remember a couple of times LACR went with IHRA, but always came back to NHRA "A sanctioning body without tracks is just a $50 T-shirt club with a rule book"
I'll bet there's track somewhere that would give it a go. I sure do miss LACR. I know there's a group out there in Palmdale or Lancaster trying to build another track.
Im sure there is , the question is would you drive 16hrs to run there on a regular basis? The word is "TRYING" I am no way against this happening as I have no history with them to be against them. Its only been my expieriece that a topic like this comes around every couple years only to fade away. Almost like they are testing the waters to see what kind of reaction they get before they proceed. Just be sure that one of the board members isnt named BILL CHAPMAN.
From another board AHRA responds I have sat back for the last 3 years and listened to all the *****ing and complaining from certain individuals regarding the AHRA and the NHRA and IHRA as well. I have been the center of all of the attacks from disgruntled racers who were affected negatively not by the AHRA but the person I allowed to take charge of the organization (Troy Moe). These people have blamed me for this demise and have gone so far as to try to cause me to lose my job in law enforcement. This is the nature of the beast created by Moe and there is no one who has lost more, or been affected more than I have through this entire ordeal, personally and financially. I have lost thousands of my personal funds to make the AHRA into a functional organization with absolutely no return, the money I invested into this is in the same pocket that anyone else's loss is (Troy Moe's). To those who had a direct affect from Moe's under handed dealings you have all the right in the world to vent but you have attacked the wrong person. There are many individuals who have attacked me personally who have only heard second and third hand and really have no clue what happened. I have not given up on my quest to bring the AHRA to life and I will not let the nay sayers keep me from this dream. There are several individuals on this board that have nothing good to say and as for Jim Overly, being called a maggot and pond s***, REALLY? Now that's original. I am not going to stoop to your level here or anywhere else because I do not know you. There are others who have continued to let's just say, RUN THEIR mouth about things they have heard from their good friends, ring any bells Dean Murdoch? Bottom line, I don't care what you say, just point the finger where it needs to be pointed. There are people in the drag racing community that have bashed me that I have never met, never spoke to but it is funny how they will get on the internet and swear they know me and that I was the guy making all the deals and arrangements. It is amazing how many people know me that I have no clue who you are. Now to those of you who support the AHRA and my efforts, God Bless you. I have more people supporting me that I have never met and know what happened and who caused the problems. I will try to answer some of the questions I have seen for those of you who desire to keep some faith in what I am trying to do. There are three Texas fuel organizations that I learned (through Chris Graves) had paid for memberships for the AHRA to Troy Moe. I have provided permanent AHRA memberships for those racers who's names were provided to me by Chris. Any questions ask Chris. Yes I am slowly moving along with the AHRA program. There is a new rule book completed with original AHRA cl***es and rules as they were from the 1978-79 seasons with the exceptions of updated safety regulations. These cl***es and rules will allow more individuals a chance to compete without having to have all the deep pocket high dollar equipment to be compe***ive. Same cl***es same rules as 78-79. I anticipate a season to begin early 2014 at several tracks that have made commitments in the Southwest and Midwest area's. The web site will have information posted when I make it available and as Overly may claim, it isn't ********. If you want to see who is currently involved in the program, look at the AHRA web site at ahramotorsports.com and you will see Overly's worm (Troy Moe) is not on the list. As I have posted previously, as of April 15, 2013, I will be moving the operation to Albuquerque New Mexico. Again I thank those of you who do and will support the AHRA effort and to those who like to create the hate and discontent on web sites bashing me, well, I hope the best for you as well. Respectfully Rod Saint AHRA Motor Sports
Be realistic. Major PR damage from the past. There is a no money in the fans or gr*** roots racers pockets to chase a tin cup and a few dollars.
I'll be whatching as I have ran AHRA in the past and would like to see it return. As I'm not a fan of NHRA.
I wish you all the best in trying to get things going again. I raced AHRA years ago at the old Ozark MO track. Good luck. Later, ****
The NHRA is not very HAMB friendly. Even the "sportsmen" cl***es are high doller. The Super Gas and Super Comp cl***es are more like Pro Stock. So maybe the AHRA can fill the gap. The nitro racers always want money to run the car, I get it. It's very expensive to run a nitro car. But how many nitro cars are out there compared to guys with injected dragsters, altereds, g***ers, door cars, and guys who just want to run?
I for one wish they would bring back the gas dragster cl***es. Those were fun and rather cheap to race.
