HELP: HEI Distributor

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Beep, Mar 26, 2013.

  1. I am installing a GM style HEI distributor on my 351W Ford. It has two tabs for wires to hook up to it. One of them is surely the hot wire. What is the other one for? Which one is which?

    Thanks

    Coil negative, tach signal

  4. This distributor has a built in coil on top. There is no external coil. So, one wire hooks to the 12v hot wire? and the other to what????.

Sorry, but I am a Ford guy. Never used a GM part before.

Like they said, one ign. 12 volts on left, one coil - or tach output on the right.

Usually the caps are labeled. One is 12 volt that is powered with key on (should be set up so it is powered when key is on start position and run position) Other is to tachometer if you run one.

If you you are looking at the connecter the one on the right is the 12 volt and the one on the left will run to a tack if you have one thay had to make them simple for them chevy guys.

  10. Chevies have always been simple! To some, that's one of the things that endears. Others may view them as being not challenging enough.
