Ok, I just decided to post the photos here so right now it's just a preview and I will update on the paint job. My goal is to keep the truck as stock as possible, 216 and all, while lowering the suspension, adding skirts and sunvisor. In short, a old school bomb. The photos are not much to look at right now but once the cab and bed are painted and the motor back in, it will give you all a better idea of my goal.
nope, I did all the body work, it's ready for paint. Just needs some light sanding. Wait and see. Will be painted after the Easter season is over. By the way, it's not my first paint job. Painted my Nomad when I was 19, I am 50 now.
British Racing Green which is close to the original color of the truck. The inside will tu-tone grey, with the upholstery a light velour grey (already done except for the headliner) and the rest a mineral grey metallic (with extra pearl metallic midcoat and a matte top coat) I am really striving to keep it more old looking so I don't want a show quality paint job. In about two to three weeks, I will post the photos of the freshly painted cab and bed. After that, I will start on the fenders, skirts, and tailgate. I will leave the running boards ( not sure if I want body color, O.G. black, or Chrome.) and hood for last ( I want to get it running before I even bolt the hood back on.)
It seems like it. The dark green was the standard color for the truck. Any other color such as the light green, the blues, the reds, etc......etc..........were a extra cost option. Hard to believe that if the buyer wanted the truck a color other than dark green, they had to pay for it.
No matter what color the outside was, the interiors were all the same color as far as I know. The original color on the door jamb of my truck was a Champagne color, matte with a little metallic. I think the seats were maroon (correct me if I am wrong). I also think that the steering column was painted a different color (again, correct me if I am wrong)
Here's a link to an interesting color chart: http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/aclchip.aspx?image=1950-chevrolettruck-pg03.jpg
Quite a few color choices. I guess buyers were more frugal back then, hence the large number of dark green ones out there. I have a friend who has a 52 and his was originally Seacrest Green (which is lighter that shown on the color chart, more of a Aqua or Seafoam Green) but it's all primered gray, but you can see the OG color on the firewall where the black paint is flaking.
Mine is gonna be a shade of green as well...never thought I would paint it green, but I fell in love with the color. Looking forward to seeing more of your truck!
Thanks for all the positive remarks. Cubby, Green was the last color on my mind also but it's going to be Verde now, Chilly Verde. (hey, that's a good name for my truck)
For the longest time I thought they were all painted green and then had a cup of saltwater poured into the cab corners before they left the factory.. Cool truck, if we're voting I'm for black running boards. Have fun !
The standard color for the Chevy/GMC 2nd 47 through 1st 55 was the green, called Forest Service green by many I've talked to. Any other color was available only by special order, individual or fleet. Ford did not offer any colors but black from 1917-25.
I am seriously considering black running boards. I am not too crazy about chroming them (no offense Waldo53, your troka looks great). By the way, when I bought the truck, I was surprise how very little rust it had. No rust through in the cab corners. There was a small hole on the passenger side floor and a small hole on the passenger side windshield lip (at the corner). I just cleaned the rust, welded it and then I put some rust preventive paint on it. I have to say who ever had the truck before the guy I bought it from, took real good care of keeping it as rust free as possible and keeping it as original as possible. This is why I want to keep it as OG as possible where any changes I make, I can always change it back to OG, easily, meaning, reinstalling the stock springs and 16 inch wheels. The only modifications I made was to fill the radio opening because it had been cut for a new radio and I filled the stake holes (so the bed looks smooth).
been doing work all week on the interior and I will be spraying some primer later today and then paint on Monday, so here's a few photos of the slooooooooooow progress. http://s1140.photobucket.com/user/jcmarz/slideshow/
