That was me with the Z28 engine in the T-bucket. Here is a link to that post (fun read).

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=471965

The 67 Z-28 is now fully restored and being shown. A rare California emission engine stamp from a oneof 32 California built smog cars WITH rare cowl plennum induction in Red over Black and loaded with options.

    Getting back to this post....

Even IF it WAS a early "new" Z-28 engine and even if it WAS worth $40,000 (yeah, right).. it would drop in value by at least $30,000 just by bolting it between the frame rails of that 73 Camaro by becoming a "used" Z-28 engine. He should have sold it.

Toast is correct. The over the counter replacement 302's were not stamped DZ but CE. DZ was for 1969 only and was stamped on production line engines only. The 302 did come out in 1967 for Trans Am race use but had to be run in a production car before it was legal for Trans Am. I have owned several legitimate 69 DZ 302 engines as guys were yanking them out of their Z/28's because they had no torque. They were dropping BBCs in place of the 302. I lived in an apartment in the early 70's and had a very understanding wife as I had two complete DZ motors in our eating area and a DZ bare block as the base for a coffee table with a piece of plywood on top. Talk about redneck furniture. My 69 RS/Z/28 would run 12.79 ETs with nothing more than headers, ******* bars and 4:56 gears, but you had to rev it to 7500 rpm.

^^^^^Agreed. And FWIW, the 67-8 prodution motors were MO & MP if I recall right. Used to know all this ****. The DZ was 69, and not correct for a 67, I'd think.

Rustednutz, I had about the same results with mine when I was beating on it. 4.88s, *******s, 10"slicks & headers. Mid-12s with a tune by modified production ace, Doc Dixon. Had to get it up in the twilight zone & keep it there. :D

Ha Ha Ha, the best thing I've read all day. It's amazing that die hard GM people think the clouds parted and the God's gave us the DZ302. It's a damn 302! Not a 454 or 427 or even a small block 400. :D

Now I'll sit quietly over here and ponder the DZ-383 that I invented when I bored and stroked my 350 Chevy....

'67 was MO or MP, not DZ.

Tell your buddy that I have a new (in box) 140 camshaft to go in it.
    I'll take $10,000.
Should increase the price of that 302 to over $100K.

    Since your dreaming that is...

Could of sworn my 68 z had a DZ stamp on the 2 bolt engine I sold years later.

There were a couple clean early Z's in town in the mid-late '70's, one was a '67 with the "302" emblems, very clean "skunk", black/ white stripes, and it had a black vinyl top. Original engine had been grenaded, guy who had it was running it around with a bored 283/292 and 5:38's for a while, another friend bought it with no engine, had it a couple months and sold it to another guy in the Valley who was going to put it back together, haven't seen it since.
The other was a gennie '69, a good friend had it whose cars are always extremely well detailed, and it was another skunk, original 302, cross-ram and upgrade cam, hood, and a beautiful set of polished Americans- very nice car. So he decides to sell it to work on his next project, and a rich kid who was a serious partier show up with a wad of cash and the munchies. He doesn't really want to sell it to him, but asking price cash in hand- you know. "Don't **** it up" he says as the kid drives away. So the kid goes wild, trying to race everybody in town, usually loses, zero driving skill, and face it fans, it's still a small-block and the car wasn't that light and only had 4:10's, and there were a lot of Six-Packs and CJ's and such running around with guys who could drive then. So the kid runs out of money to buy heathen devil weed and the folks won't give him any more, so he sells the cross-ram and good heads off the car and puts camel-humps and such on it, still trying to race it, revs it up with lame valve springs, boom- so he leaves it along the highway and walks home. It sits there for a day, and the Chippies have it hauled away. So my buddy gets a call, hey, we've towed your car, you owe the tow and storage, and it's X dollars every day until you come get it- seems the kid never transferred the ***le, and when they ran the numbers, came back to him. So he goes down there, sees the shape it's in and starts steamin', pays the fees, hauls it home and locks it in the garage- and it still has the reg with his name on it in the glove box. Kid shows up a few days later, hey I want my car, OK, show me the paperwork- ain't got any, he had lost the pink. Still pissed about how the kid had roached the car, he tells him to get lost, heads to DMV and checks, sure enough, still in his name, we'll send you a duplicate ***le. So they end up in court, kid shows up reeking of weed and body odor, big-bucks dressed up Mommy in tow, and starts running his mouth- judge says where's your proof of ownership, don't have any, lost it, blah blah- how about you, have any paperwork, yessir, here you go, thank you, case dismissed. Car was cleaned up and running again in about a week, but the crossram was long gone, and the heads had already been put on a 3fiddy in a '55
