iv read multiple threads on t5's camaro and s10. i know that s10 shifters are forward and camaro shifters are far back and between the two each are geared different. i picked up a mid 80's camaro t5 manual clutch that came off the back of a 350. iv seen picks of 56 and 57 chevy trucks with s10 t5's and the shifter is in the "normal" location. i know when i put in the camaro trans it will sit back further. i was going to keep the original bench seat and angle the shifter forward as much as possible. but doing some quick measuring i might end up scratching the bench seat and putting some bucket seats in the truck. has anyone put a camaro trans in a 57 or 56 chevy truck without swapping the tail with a s10 tail?
You've gotta swap the tail. We did a GMC not to long ago and thought we'd skin a fat cat and not. We couldn't make it work. Plus the Chevy's are mostly twisted mounts.
I got a 94 s10 t5 complete. Will I be able to swap the tails knowing the s10 is electric speedo or do I need an older s10 trans?
i got a t-5 out of a 88 firebird, , made me a 2inch forward bracket, cut the old shifter off, left a stub to weld the bracket to. then i put bucket seats in, more comfortable than the stock bench, and curved me a piece of steel rod the length i wanted it. the crossmember, i made out of 1 1/2 inch tubing and some flat stock to match he angle of the rear trans mount. it was very simple to do and i am glad i did it. all of this is in my 48 f-1 ford truck, my avitar.
gas man, you got some shots of your custom shifter and crossmember? any image reference would be great.
