I picked up this dual carb set up this morning. I believe the carbs are 600cfm, and it came with all linkage and fuel lines. I am considering using it on my '26 Model T Coupester that has a mild 283 and two speed powerglide in it.. I know it will be way too much carb, but really like the looks of it..and also didn't pay squat for it... If I go this route, what can I do to cut down on the flow of fuel. Is there such a thing as disabling the four barrel kick ins on them ? Just asking....as I am not sure if I will use them or not.. Thanks much.. Cheers..
wouldnt swear to it but maybe an in line fuel regulator? so you can actually just turn the fuel down a notch. ive found afew tunnel rams that are heap and have wondered the same thing. same engine to
HAHAHA No you cant turn down the fuel you frye your valves Problem with to much carbs is they flow to much air Are they vacum secondaries? Then they open the secondaries as much as they need Its possible to dissable the secondaries so they dont open And 2 600s dont equal 1200cfm but around 900 cfm
Makes sense.. I will look into disabling the secondaries.. Thanks.... That's enough carb for a 400 cu inch motor. Your 283 will be a dog on the bottom end. The fuel flow HAS to match the air flow, or you will lean it out and burn up your mill. Match your carb, conservatively, to your engine size and you will enjoy it a lot more. Gold03
Just switch to 450 Holleys. I've seen a single quad tunnel ram with the secondaries disconnected but he did ithat to slow the car down.
disconnect the secondaries - all you gotta do is stop up the vacuum holes - put smallest squirters on the carbs & then jet them to the plugs
As long as you keep the power valves from opening too soon and lock down the secondaries it will work on your 283. I run 2 4100's on a 272 with 390 gears.
Appreciate all the comments, and most of them hit it on the head. I really like the looks of this monster (yes I admit it) and hoped I could made it work and still have a decent running engine.... My build is a budget high end Jalopy...(no NOT the other thing) and yes looks has a lot to do with it.. I will check out the blocking off and changing fuel "innerds", etc. HOWEVER... If someone has a tunnel ram with carbs, linkage, etc that will work on my little mini motor and wants to trade me for this one ... SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE... Cheers...
Those ain't real Holleys on there.... They're rejects!.... And Summit bought the design and made it their own...
The high rise is already raising your RPM range.... You could try..... Disconnecting both secondaries, the richening up the secondaries in the carb that isn't primary. Then making the richer carbs primaries secondary in progressive linkage.... if that makes sense... I would most deffinately plug both power valvers, and play with jetting leaning as much as you can. Back in the day 283's did run your setup, but with much smaller carbs.... What your trying to achieve, I doubt you can ideally obtain, but you may get close enough to make it a reliable driver... In reality. a 350 chevy with a mild build doesn't even need 600 cfms, but many people put 750's or 850's on them, and they are OK....
