    Hi All
Im currently looking at purchasing a 1934 ford pickup from a Hamb member and he has been more than helpfull in providing info for me.

No money has exchanged yet, but the ***le could be an issue.

The ***le is clear and marked as a 1934 ford but the Vin number is 6 Characters and starts with a T

    EG:T****X (where X equals a number)

Like i said the chap has been extremely helpfull but that doesnt look correct for a 1934 (should start with 18) and he is possitive its an original ch***is.

Ive asked him to check the actual truck to confirm but its in storage and wont be out until end april due to bad weather.

Have any of you guys seen anything like this? Should i stear clear or if it doesnt match the ch***is can he get the ***le modified to reflect the number on the ch***is?

    cheers Julian

  2. You are right, there is something funny about that number. Any chance it is a state ***igned VIN with a tag on the door post and not the one on the frame? Where is he finding the number on the vehicle? Also, if it was a 4 cylinder it would start with star B...

don't do a damn thing until the weather improves and the vehicle can be thoroughly inspected. You may even consider finding an independent party to verify the VIN before spending the money to buy it.

Just think what a h***le you will have at Customs if things aren't hunky-dorry!

  4. There are agencies that will independentley inspect vehicles.
Let me know the city (PM) and I can locate an inspector or a company.
I do it in South Florida.

Sounds like whole number is wrong if t-5 numbers and not just prefix...'34 V8s would have had 6 numbers early in in year, 7 late in year as they went over a million V8's total. The fairly scarce fours would all have had 5,000,000 range numbers.
I would guess that this is a state issued ***le with T for Texas...every state here has its own procedures, but many issue an entirely new ***le with state ***igned number stamped on the vehicle if old ***le is lost rather than reviving anything already stamped on the car. If this is what it is, it is entirely legitimate, meaning it has been inspected by an authority to clear it of possible stolen status and the number has been ***igned by an en***y legally allowed to do so.
If this is the case...actual ***le do***ent should help clarify what the heck it is. If ***le is legit and vehicle is marked to match (usually these ***igned numbers are on a riveted plate with state markings, not original type frame stamping) it should be OK here, Australia would have to comment on its policy on ***igned numbers!
