it's realy a shame when you make a good faith deal with someone from the HAMB that you are SURE you can trust and then you find yourself being ROBBED and stabbed in the back. this happened to me when i sold a realy killer 302 Ford motor to Levis Classic a SMOKIN DEAL. you may have seen him tooling around the HAMB drags or bragging on the HAMB about how badass his new motor was but the truth is it is'nt realy HIS motor yet. that is that since he was a HAMBer and i thought i could trust him i let him take the motor with a $500 deposit. six months later i recieved another $250 that leaves another $750 that he has not paid. i've begged and pleaded with him for MONTHS to pay me SOMETHING. all i've gotten is more empy promises about how he will send money on such and such day only to never recieve so much as a heads up that it did'nt work out or that something came up. worse than that are the NUMEROUS times that he has told me that money had already been sent only it never shows up. he's offered no explanations or excusses. i've been patient as can be. my friends have all said they would have been out for blood LONG before now. it has, afterall, been nearly a year.

what realy pours salt on the wound is that i CONSTANTLY see Levis Classic on the HAMB buying parts and bragging about parts he's bought on Ebay. there is the T roadster body, or something, that he bought that comes to mind. there has been countless other parts he has been "wheeling and dealing" on in the last 12 months. it's like he's rubbing my nose in it. he has money to buy all this other shit but he does'nt have the money to pay me. what gives. talk about adding insult to injury.

i did'nt sell that motor at such a lose because i wanted to. i needed the money and Brett knew that. i have two small children and i'm going through a divorce. he has known and i have reminded him just how much i NEED my money and still all he has to offer are empty promises and LIES. but don't take my word for it. the following are just a small sampling of the over 20 PMs i've had back and forth with Levis Classic in which he makes promise after promise to pay me by such and such date and lie after lie about how "the check is in the mail". Ryan has been aware of this problem for some time and i'm sure he has more important things to do than make sure HAMBers are'nt screwing each other so i'm taking thisngs into my own hands to try and assure that nobody else gets screwed by this CROOK like i did. i thought he was a good guy, i even thought we were friends but i see how much his "friends" mean to him so it is with great regret that i post this warning to everyone on the HAMB. maybe the threat of banishment and/or public ridicule will FINALY convince him to pay his debt. if this were a loan from a bank the item would have been repossed by now. i think Jesse James said it best PAY UP SUCKA!!!!

Dude, that really sucks! I have been around a short time and it seems that these guys are pretty up front about things. Unfortunatly theres always a bad apple in the bunch that screws things up for everyone. Thank`s for the low down on this guy.

  6. Maybe yes, maybe no. We all like to think we could trust one another, as this tends to feels like a community. But this situation if true in all it's subtleties, is truly over the top. I know how much lawyers cost (boy howdy, DO I!!!), and how difficult divorces can be (three and a half years, still going at it...), so all I can say is:
Pay up, man, karma can be a bitch...

it's a sad deal indeed. i feel bad cause i hooked these two up with each other. i thought Brett was a standup guy, i chopped and channeled his sedan for nuthin cause i thought we were friends and he'd return the favor. i can't even get him on the phone lately. whats the deal Brett???? how about those headlight of Dave's you were gonna send me?? and that Olds grill???? it's time to step up and take care of your commitments. i hate to lose a friend but i gotta say i'm a little peaved with you lately. lets get this straightened out so we can all hang and not have this tension between us.

Its really to bad this has had to come to this, but maybe there is a bright side if you have not seen this brett has sold the car this week see post below so now he should have some money and be able to pay you in full.

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72096

I would also like to hear the other side of the story since he is being called out in public and seems to have a major presence on the HAMB.

I would hope that this gets resolved in a peaceful and timely manner but it appears some damage has already been done.

Good luck Pinball and keep us posted.

nobody can screw you better and faster than friends or family. am I understanding that he sold the engine (that was not paid for) in a car? In Florida that can be pushed into receiving stolen goods, ( the innocent guy that bought the car) now he has involved the dude that bought the car and he may loose the car and his money for you to get paid. you have a paper trail, the guy owed you money and screwed you, go visit the local cops.

I"ve had several dealings with Brett and he's always been a stand up guy with me. He even picked up and delivered a Latham supercharger to me from Michigan when I needed help. I don't know what's going on here but I'd call Brett a friend.

    1. This is NOT pinball's fault. The fact that he gave over the motor before being paid means he trusted Levi. The is NOTHING wrong with that. He should be able to trust him...

    2. Brett gave Kevin and I a model-a coupe body for a bonneville project we have on the back burner right now. So, obviously I know Brett can be VERY generous...

Maybe Brett's in a bad way. I'm certainly willing to help if he is...

  13. I have met Brett, he seems like a good guy. Mike and I road down to the Pile Up with him last year when the parts for my Olds did'nt show up on time.He does'nt seem like the type of guy to screw someone over like this. The facts however show a different story. I have seen all the PM's between Brett and Pinball. I have lost count how many times Pinball told me he talked to Brett or got a Pm from him and that the money was on the way or it was going in the mail in the morning. It's one thing to say sorry I do'nt have your money and I'll get it to you when I can , but it's not cool to keep telling him that it's on the way and then not send it. Then Brett and Pinball worked out a deal for a gift card , that has also been a no show. It's been more then a week since brett said he was going to send it. They both live in Michigan, so it should have only taken a few days .

Mongo, there is no excuse... I agree...

that said, I want to do whatever I can to get Pinball even-steven.

  15. That sucks. I would like to think that we can all trust each other on the HAMB. But it's true, you can always count on friends and family to screw you.

I remember a couple years ago, on the FordBarn site, some people brought up his name, as NOT being trustworthy, so this is not some new problem with him !!!!!! CROOKS should NOT be allowed on any site, anywhere, i don't give a shit what their excuse is !!!!!
How many people have to get fucked before something is done about em?

Kind of makes me think of a saying I heard: "If you loan a friend 20 bucks and never see them again, it was a good investment."

That being said, Its definantly a bummer to see this happen, and I hope it gets squared away soon. Also thats alot me than 20 bucks too. I'm sure there might be a good reason , and maybe it'll all get worked out when we hear both sides of this.

Ryan is right. he can be quite generous. fact is i realy like the guy and up till this incedent so did Pinball. i know that once Pinball is paid he will let bygones be bygones, but i can't blame him for being pissed either. since i've helped Brett do some work on his sedan he has given me some pretty cool parts for nothin, so i don't think he is a "crook", at least not intentionaly. shit happens, i can relate.
Pinball has been a friend for about 15 years now. i've tried to stay nuetral (or as neutral as possible) but when push comes to shove (which it certainly has) i gotta get my old friend's back. i don't want any hard feelings between anyone, but more important than that i don't want my friend to get screwed. Brett got a SMOKIN deal on that motor as it was i think Pinball had OVER $3500 into building it and that was pushin 10 years ago when it was built. Pinball has been in a bad spot, finacialy, for some time now and this was the last thing he needed. i know some of his friends have been buggin him for months to post this thread but he wanted to give Brett the oppertunity to pay up. Pinball REALY did'nt want it to come to this and neither did i.

CONS can be the nicest people in the world to some. Thats cause they need some people to allways vouch for them. Thats why they're called CONS. Most could charm the skin off a snake, thats why they keep getting by with their con game. SOMEONE has to put a stop to em.
PINBALL, i really feel for you dude, guys like you DON'T deserve to be getting the short end of the stick. You deserve the $750 you are owed + interest.

  22. Jeeze. Don't let months go by, if you can't afford to pay it all off at least make the effort - $10 here, $10 there.. think of the postage to mail it as interest. Or better yet have a buddy hang onto it and send him $50 a month. $12.50 a week, that isn't that much if you have it coming in and going out. Don't go out to dinner once a week and you have it. Eat ramen noodles instead of rice-a-roni, if you have to. Whatever.

Wether it's $50 or just $10, even if you think $10 is piddly shit when you owe $700 or however much it is, it says 'hey I may be in a bad way but I am still trying to live up to my end of the deal' -

Plus, was it me I would find this whole thing being posted here to be embarassing as all hell. If nothing else.

There are 2 seperate threads going on about the same guy at the moment.

  25. That just about sums it up. There are 8500 members on the HAMB. Compare that to a random 8500 people at a large swap meet like Hershey or Carlisle.
Would you trust all of them to send you an item that you paid in advance?
This dude might be pimping parts for 3rd parties. If the deal with the 3rd party falls through and he has allready collected cash he,s in the shit,s. Bad managment for sure. Wonder how he would fare on Ebay ? We all buy & sell, We all like to collect cash for our hobby. But shit, the word REFUND is part of the game as well.
( or in the case of Pinball,s V8, PAY UP PAL )

I have bought tail light lens from Brett. He delivered as promised when he said he would.
I let him use my tools at my place this last August during the HAMB drags.
It was my pleasure to drive him to the parts store and help what little I could.
    Brett is a good guy.
Why it has taken so long to resolve this issue is any body;s guess.

Brett is just like the rest of us. He may have situations come and go that get in his way of doing what he wants.

The last post I find form him was one thanking me for the use of my stuff.

I certainly wish him the best and hope life has not dealt him an uppercut.

    Theres a very simple rule...
If you can't afford to pay for it don't buy it.

Now its resold and the real owner STILL doesn't have his money OR even contact from the guy?
Little things going missing or being forgotten about I can accept. Thats just being busy, forgetful or lazy.
Not bothering to pay for the engine in a car you are driving, enjoying and then selling is pushing it beyond any of those excuses.

His friends need to speak to him and smarten him up...not defend his actions.

    Terrible situation...

This is NOT worthy !!! Or as earlier said : Quote :Would you trust all of them to send you an item that you paid in advance?" ... Well , I sure as HELL would !!!!! NOT been dissapointed ONCE !!!!! I can harldly belive this CRAP !!!!

If he takes your money , and dont deliver ...:confused:

NO wonder why I buy most of my shit from guys & girls on EBAY !!!! ...Or Egay , or Eshit , or wathever you like to call it ...
It is pretty easy : Take care of your customers , and they might( or should I rather say WILL ) come back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
