i just recently picked up a reworked head for my c-10 and before i bolt it on i was wondering what ya'll would recomend for an intake and carb. the new head is mildly ported with 1.84 intakes and 1.6 exhausts, milled .060" . it's also got a set of crane 1.7 roller rockers. i'm looking for an intake that will wake up this motor but still give some resemblence of economy. what would you guys do?

Offy 4bbl w/ edelbrock performer 500cfm w/ elec choke (kragen is cheap, no core). Have headers? Still will work great. Good carb and easy linkage. Get it from Summit, with the intake. Cheapest around.

thanks for the reply. is a cam something i should worry about? i don't want to deal with replacing the stock one if i'm not going to suffer performance problems as is. i don't have headers yet but it's next on the list, after the intake/carb. heated intake manifold or not? if i'm scouring the bay, what should i think is a good deal? i'm looking to do this on the cheap, just like everyone huh? i don't want to end up with a used intake and carb for $20 less than brand new.

i would use a clifford intake. and a 500 carter AFB. or a 500 holley 2 barrel. or maybe a 390 holley four. headers and a good ign. look at stove bolt they have cast iron split manifolds.

I wouldn't worry about a cam, unless you want to get an even larger carb than a 500. The offy (and I think clifford), both are heated. I know the offy works off of your stock exhuast manifold, just bolts right up. If you get headers, you will have to get a heat plate. Langdon's Stovebolt is where I got mine. He is a good guy, and is more than willing to give you advice. The problem with ebay, is you may pay for a used setup, and not save that much money than if you got it new, and know that you don't have to fix problems.
    Good Luck,

Hands down the best mod to do to an inline GM six is swap it over to HEI.

Later integral head engines had them and they drop right into the earlier engines. It will completely transform the engine's character.

Here a pic of my 235 stovebolt, clifford intake with holley 390. This setup is prob the best thing I ever did to this engine, along with the 12 volt conversion, headers, oil, and hei. All this really woke this little six banger up. Runs like a champ. I think 500 cfm would be perfect for you. Im not using any manifold heat and it runs fine, but I live in california.

I also recommend the clifford performance intake. I used one w/ a holley on a 250 and it ran great.

Clifford performance is getting 280hp out of rebuilt 250 inline with there performance parts.

I know you didnt ask about ignition, but since it was mentioned.

you can save some $$ by converting to an ignitor vs/ hei.

I don't know what that Ignitor costs, but I usually pay about 35 bucks for an inline 6 HEI distributor.

thanks again. i think it's going to be a 500cfm on a clifford. as far as ignition goes, i have thought about it. i know about the ignitors, i've had them on other cars but hei is what i'm headed towards. there was a thread that just happened to pop up a few days ago here. old old thread about inline hei with tons of info on it that somebody revived. what timing!! i saved it and when i head to the junkyard i know what to look for. i can't wait to get this thing really running, then i can slam it on it's belly.
