  2. Sweet!!!!! A full size German wind tunnel. The US version that was in Hampton VA was torn down recently.
This is a P-51 in Langley's full scale tunnel. Known as NACA at the time.

The Durango 95 purred away real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, real country dark.

An early XC-99 (a one-off cargo version of the B-36) before the radar nose applied. Great photo! Thanks. This plane reigned king for more than a couple decades...as the largest mass produced aircraft. Is this at Kelly AFB?

  9. Not sure on the location. I never saw a C99 but saw the 36s, they're monsters! Here's a another pic of a 99:

and I think this is an early B36 (no jet pods):

I remember seeing this huge airplane in 1966 parked in a field by Lackland AFB. Never knew it was a C99 until seeing it on the Hamb this afternoon and investigating further on the web. This thread is incredible!

Love the pics of the planes. I was a weapons mech. in the USAF. Worked on the T33, F102, RF4 at Ramstein AB and the F100 at Phang Rang AB Vietnam. Took a few rides in the 123 on Jato. Those were the days. Keep'em coming. Hud

This picture in post #70023 is a favorite of mine. I love that it has a Studebaker Hawk and truck and then the Mercedes rolling out the front door. It show the different facets of Studebaker at the time. The company was the sole distributor of Mercedes in the U.S. at the time.

    AKA the Probe 16.

34" total height, it held the record for being the lowest street driven car for a while ( With a roof, I'm guessing )

Designed and built by Dennis and Peter Adams, Bradford-on-Avon, U.K.

    Edit.

    Correction.

The lowest was the Probe 15 that was even lower with its 29" total height.

This F-100 has the Air Force Thunderbird colors. I can remember back in 1962 or 1963 ( one of those years ), they ( Thunderbirds, with F-100's ) put on a show for us when I was stationed at Wheelus A.F.B. in Libya. Russ

PS, Thanks to your Mom and others for making a Great Aircraft, The F-100

I read they only built 3 of them. 2 have been restored, the one from Clockwork is there, but in ruins..

  23. My uncles last flight was in a 102 Delta Dagger when it exploded over McChord AFB in January 1959.

He loved that plane... I believe that it was the First Supersonic Interceptor in service.

The F-100 was the first Fighter Aircraft to fly Supersonic. Thanks, Russ

  26. Thanks... but what is meant when it is stated as and I quote... F102 Delta Dagger is a member of the Century Series, the F-102 was the first operational supersonic interceptor and delta-wing fighter of the USAF?

    F100 reached Mach One+ May 25th 1953 the F102 didn't achieve Mach Plus until Oct 14 1954....????

I'm confused on the wiki descriptions as well as the Air Force info....

Case solved if the description and performance are included... F100 Supersonic Fighter... F102 was an Interceptor capable of Mach One in a slight climb... the Hun was Mach at level to dive attitude.

I didn't know Farmall wasn't always International Harvester.
I knew an old farmer that only bought IH. Even his refrigerator was IH, I imagine if they made one, his wringer washing machine was too.

I can't believe this is happening.... small world department pt 4? As a post high school Army intel guy I was at Ramstien late 1968-early 70... in a detachment that supported RF-4Cs / 38th TRS. Made many a donut run to that little quanset hut on the other side of the runways where they built all those reventment shelters. BEST NCO club in the DoD was there, too! Gary

Time for another little batch; unfortunately many have that homely kid (aka me) in them again:
From the neighborhood old car dumping ground circa 1971:

Next three were taken near Crivitz and Marinette, Wisconsin summer 1970:

Take a close look: Not a Jeep exactly, but a 1941 Ford GP (note the different front fender, plus it had the Ford logo stamped in the back panel). Very few of these made.

Couple model shots, IIRC 1965 and 1966:

And finally this blown/carbed T-bucket, taken in Glenview, IL in August 1972 - wonder if it's still around?
