I have a 31 sedan that I would like to have a frame built for. I want a double Z'd frame with the front spring set forward. I was just wondering if anyone has any recommandations of anybody out there that can set this up. I apprieciate any info. Thanks Jeff
try old soul hot rod shop out of leroy ny... by rochester. jesse is a great dude and a top notch builder.
Jeff, Hey Man I am sure there are a few guys in your area that are capable of building you the design you want. I build cars for a living and specialize in ch***is's and sheet metal work. I would recommend you find a guy who has built numerous cars and lots of one off stuff, if he has done that then he understands frames suspensions proportions stance etc. Make sure he has good welding abilities, if he cant lay down killer beads then he hasnt built much and the design and build will be lacking. I'll post a couple pics of one thats in the jig now. Its a one off for a customer that wants a wild rake and the "broke frame look" Not my style bUt I appreciate his vision and am happy to build it. This will give you an idea of what you should look for in a builder. ( in My opinion) The design is as crucial as the build. I am probably further than you want to travel and run about 8-10 months booked but if you need anything or have any question give me a holler. Frames are quick, if you just need that built I can squeeze those in sooner. I have built cars for numerous hambers if you need references feel free to ask. However you may want to Look for a builder close to home as it may save you some travel time but find a good one. Jesse 585 813 7549 Old Soul Hot Rod Shop. PS Thanks for the plug Jim!
This one is obviously scratch built and I tapered the front, however you can use a stock A frame and box it or just use the front half so it looks original and build the back half out of 2x. Whatever floats your boat. This is the cheapest way. The plating is overkill but this guy builds some sick motors so I want my end to hold up! Good luck Jeff. Jesse
Uncle Jess Thanks for the pics, info and your time. Thats some nice work, and you where recommended in a P.M. I received. I am going for a some what traditional build. The suspension is the only reason I will not attack it myself. I not familiar with the I beam set up and positioning... This is my first 30's car. I am running a flat head with a T-5. I want the double z because I am chopping it 4" and I dont want a drastic channel to obtain the ride height( and kill my leg room). Its already small enough in there. Thanks again.
Jeff, Ah cool thanks good to hear someone recommended me, I am kinda quiet on these forums as I am usually in the shop and not on the computer much but today in the house with a sick daughter! So I am on the computer. Yeah double z is the ticket for a radical chop and stance and still have leg room. All suspensions are very simple once you understand the principles of how they work, the art is making them look simple and having everything flow, brakes steering clutch etc. I would recommend finding some pics of cars you like ( stance channel chop Etc.) to take to your builder so you can discuss what direction to take your build. Sounds like a killer build I like your ingredients already! Again holler if I can ***ist in any way. Later Jeff. Jesse
Jeff, If thats what your looking to build then there is no need for a Z. That is a stock frame with a mild chop highboy. You will have plenty of head and leg room.
Do a search for username "Koz" and read some of his build threads. He should be able to help you out. He's in PA. near Hamburg.
Jess very nice work. I like your method of being able to lock frame tubes in place via tack welds. I don't want to hijack the thread but what kind of material is the largest parts of the frame table made from - structural steel? Where does one find it on the left side of the map? Thanks...
Dane, Yeah its just huge straight Beam. I put a string on it and its lazer straight and super rigid. Kinda overkill but why not right. Thanks Jesse
You might want to send a pm to HAMBer OJ. He does some nice work at Clarke County Speedshop up in Berryville, VA.
