I have two 28/29 sport coupe bodies, one is decent, one is pretty rough. I am going the coupester route because the better body was already started down this path and the doors I have already have the tops cut off. The whole thing is a long term project, I am in the brain storming and collecting parts phase now. Here is my question.... Who has shortened the doors to roadster length and extended the quarters? I feel doing this will make the proportions a little more pleasing to the eye. I know the panel above the decklid is longer too but that can be bought easy. I would love to see an example from someone who has pulled this off. Also, anyone that knows a good way to recreate the upper belt line can share that too. Here is basically what I have with the two bodies. (**** pictures, sorry) Thanks in advance!
I'm working on one, as is Tex***peed. He's going the full roadster route I believe, while I went a slightly different direction still shortening the doors, but from front to back, shortening the car body length overall. I'll post links in an edit when I get the chance. All depends on whether you want the absolute roadster look, or throw in different flavah....either/or.....ALSO, I'm a big fellah 6'3" 220lbs, so I need some extra room. EDIT: Here's Tex***peed's http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=594849&highlight=tex***peed
I vote for Sport/Business Coupe's that look like they should, but that's just my selfish point of view. After chopping the top on mine I realized why most of these cars end up *******. There's about a thousand parts in the top that are model specific to these cars, and NOTHING else. Wow.... Matt (Texas Speed) and PoboyRoss have the best examples around of how to accomplish this with the best end result. The ultimate for me would be to scrounge up a roadster cowl and use the Sporty rear to gain all that room. Roadsters are a Tight ***** if you're over about 4'6". People musta been alot smaller back then.
Thanks guys, I have seen both threads. I actually got my doors and some other stuff from Matt. What I'm really looking for is someone who has lengthened the quarters. Poboy, how did lucky do the belt line on yours? Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
If I had complete doors and the top I would have done the sport coupe. I really want a roadster so I'm gonna do this and hopefully trade the body later down the line. Are you serious or joking? osr is not something I see mentioned too much on the hamb Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
here is my coupester no cutting of the doors or extending 1/4ers..i like this look better and i have plenty room inside to move around and haul stuff inside and the top works up and down..
I'm very serious. I was at the book store looking for something to read and flip through it. I've never bought a copy before, but the cars inside looked cool, so I bought it. Honestly, I'll buy any car mag if the cars inside are to my taste. Would I subscribe? No.
Lorodz I love your car, we spoke at race of gentlemen. Just thinking of doing something a little different with mine. Hopefully I won't live to regret it! Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
oh yea i remember. if you want to go that route id say talk to poorboy or watch his thread really well hes doing what you want to do. or very simular. id say build the sport coupe and sell it to get a roadster it will make life easier. other wise just build it the way you want.good luck
The black & gold one ***us did a few years ago its cool & a good example of a canneled one http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192155
I have searched it A LOT. Somehow I never saw the ***us one. I have seen the others referenced and they are all cool in their own way. Like I said in the first post, I was hoping that someone who has lengthened the quarters and shortened the doors might speak up. Thank you to for the responses so far!
I'm building a full fendered 30 Sport Coupe. Luckily I have all the metal supports for the roof. Problem is getting the top wood. There is a 6 month back log on the wood kits at the moment.
Thanks for all the responses. Since this thread I had an opportunity to purchase a REALLY rough 28/29 roadster body from a friend. It will be a ton of work but I will be happier in the long run.
I think the amount of work will be close to the same but what I will have in the end will be what I really want. This one will cost more obviously but the end value will likely double. I still think coupesters can be awesome, Matt's (tex***peed) is proof of that.
