That's what was good about this, it was visible but discreet. Will give it a shot and see if I can find it.

Here's a pic of Jesse Lopez's door poppers on his '41 Ford...

  5. There are a couple ways to make it happen. Use a bicycle cable or rod and run the cable/rod out the door to somewhere you can get to it. Cable is easier as it can make bends such as when the door opens. You can hook up to your stock inside handle to open form the inside. Or put the latch in the B-pillar and operate it some method. The door would have just the striker. You would need to figure out how to open from the inside as the doors no longer have the latch.

Even using solenoids you can put a back-up manual cable or rod to open the doors in case you lock the remote inside the car or have a dead battery.

  6. Dunno if ya can see it, but this kinda thing.. A fair few challenges here.. geometry for handle actuation, keeping Melbourne rain out, body work..run some felt/ bailey channel/ slitted rubber on riveted frame around the handle slot ?
See this sort of thing on the blown drag doorslammers.

I agree with 38chevy454. That's the method I'm using. Flipping the latches into the B pillar and using a Hood Release under the dash to open the doors from the inside, solenoids on the inside bottom of the B pillar, and a hidden pull cable in case of a dead battery using stainless steel brake cables for a motorcycles. ;) no handles on the inside or outside. Clean as can be with no hassle or fiddling with the door window glass channels etc.

  9. Back in the late 70's I removed the door handles from my 1930 pickup and I installed power window motors from a Chevy Caprice and wired the down switch to a button under the visor.

Press the button and down went the window.:D HRP

I grabbed a hood release cable, and handle, and mounted it from inside the wheel well, just behind the parking brake pedal, and ran the cable through the kick panel, and through the door jam, up to the latch. If the solinoids don't work, or I lock the fob in the car, I just reach up inside the fender well and grab the handle. a little tug, and the door pops open everytime.

  14. I stashed a generic pull cable in my comet. I think it was $8 from the help! section of Kragen. It's a mechanical backup in case my battery dies or human error occurs. I just drilled a hole in the latch, ran the cable through the wheel house, and bob's your uncle. The only thing I don't like about the entire mechanical aspect is I am paranoid that people are watching how the door is opened.

The last one I did (O/T) had a bike cable backup, charging posts in case of a dead battery, and a hidden switch that had constant power. The switch would allow entry even if the car was running and key fob was hanging from the ignition.

For you guys using bear claws...... Check out a company called AVS ( www.avsontheweb.com ) they offer a bear claw latch with built in solenoids. AVS products are of very good quality!

I had a 54 Chevy sedan delivery that was chopped 6" with electric openers. The side window opening was 7" tall. I pulled into hotel for 2007 Goodguys in DesMoines, IA, 150 miles from home, shut off car, hit the electric button and the car is totally dead. no battery juice at all. If my buddy hadnt brought a jump box I would have had to crawl over the seat and out the back door. Luckily, the car caught fire and got totalled 3 months later. NEVER WILL I HAVE ELECTRIC OPENERS AGAIN.

Check out Kindig It Designs. They build a custom flush mounted door handle that will give you the smooth look but leaves the door handle where it originally was.

  19. I'm using the old " leaving the window open ", kind of a pain in the as$ have to hope everyone is on the honor system when you leave the car anywhere but it's worked so far.
