  4. I just sold 65 truck that I did my first ever driveway paint job on. This truck fought me the whole way, 2 engines ,( 2nd engine went bad) 1 transmission, ect. Lost my ass selling it, got my inital investment of 5000 back. Paint job looked good at 10 foot but had lots of problems. Saw the truck at the swap meet, the guy was asking 12,500, bad engine and all. I guess I did a better job then I thought. Go on and try the paint job, all you can do is make it better.

Seriously, Preparation for painting with rattle cars is like prepping for a quality paint job,,get it smooth, get clean, tack it and try to paint when the wind isn't blowing if your working outside. HRP

It would probably be cheaper to guy a cheap gun and a gallon can of rustoleum. There are a bunch of threads on it and ive done it too. Gotta use the hardener tho or it takes too long.

Yup, better off with a HF gun for $25 and a bucket of rustoleum or the stuff they sell at tractor supply center for $50. Itll turn out better and alot less finger cramps too

There is a thread on how to make a rattle can primer job look better. The use of a Scotch-Brite green pad was mentioned. Scrub between coats and the pad helps produce a nice smooth and even finish.

  12. You may not be a body guy, but no a single one of us knew a damn thing about cars before we started to work on one. mistakes happen, ask questions and listen and read then give it a try. you will know more every time you do something.

bwhahahahah. I'm guessing he won't get that either.

BTW to the OP, I dont' think anybody calls them whips except people on that TV show.

and I'll spare the comment about "cats" because I can't type worth a crap either.

FWIW you couldn't pay me enough to paint a car that big with a rattle can.

I like 57 fords also, Ive had a few, and as stated before, they have a tendency to rust in certain areas, above the headlights, underside of front edge of the hood, floors, the ones with trunk lids, always rust under the back edge of the trunk lid. I think ford made more cars in 57 than chevy, but I believe most of them, bit the dust due to rust. There are good ones out there, but you need to find one from a dry climate area, in the western states, ect. If you cant afford that, you might just wanna try and repair yours, might be a learning curve, but probably well worth the effort, in the long haul.
And yes, there are days, when I sure wish, I would have taken up an easier hobby, cars know how to make you suffer, but when something clicks and you get it right, its price-less! Or maybe not, even then you have to spend the bucks to get it right!

  16. Took 5 1/2 cans of 1613 to do my coupe in the garage. Only problem was shaking the cans. Should have hired a young guy to do that !!!!

They are all projects. My car needs body work, but first (as we speak). Im getting a new motor and trans and doing brakes and suspension. That way at least its a RUNNING project with a solid drive train.

Yea bought it with the mumps. Damn thing is ugly. Got a hood over the winter just waiting for nice weather to get it on. Dont know why the precious owner thought a station wagon with a stock 292 needed a 6in cowl

What the hell are you clmplaining about? That car is bitching. Lower it some or make it a sleeeper with that 460. Then drive it like you stole it from a guy with his horny virgin daughter hiding in the back!!!

  30. Hell...how many of you guys have bad keyboards? LOL
'57 Fords of any variety are getting hard to find..I'd hang on to it. I'm with the "HF spraygun and some cheaper paint" guys. It'll be cheaper than cases of rattlecans. Roller?? are you kidding me?
