I am trying to put a 1991 s10 manual transmission in my 1954 chevy 235 inline six. the problem is the old input shaft has 10 teeth on the spline and the new tranny has 14. I assume I have to change it out. Can I switch out the old one or do I have to get a new input shaft, and where can I get one. I looked at the posts on here and could not find the answer. Hope someone can help.
I do not see any mention made in the OP's post about an adapter plate. As I recall, this transmission will not directly bolt up to the original bellhousing for two reasons, 1) the bolt pattern is different and 2) the input shaft is too long as is. The adapter plate addresses both these issues at the same time. Ray
Go for a heavier clutch disc from a small block Chevy. After changing 2 of them on my 91 S10 4X4 years ago, I found that the V8 disc fit and lasted better. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Good point. I just assumed that he had one already. If not: http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=787178&highlight=t5+adapter
I just did that swap in my 54. The adapter is a must. I went to a clutch and drive line shop and had them make up a new clutch disc with the proper spline and pressure plate. Works like a charm. Later, Dick
Got the transmission mounted, clutch and pressure plate installed. Has anyone had any issues with adjusting the clutch? I am out of threads on the linkage offset rod. Was wondering if I should shorten the linkage or lengthen the rod? any suggestions?
stock s10 TO bearing from a 1991 s10 t5. I am gonna take some measurements tomorrow and I will post them. I have a feeling the pressure plate I ordered from national chevy ass. is the wrong one. They said it was a stock 54 chevy pressure plate but I am having my doubts.
If you can trust the pictures on Advance Auto's site you've got the wrong throwout bearing. It shows the S10 as using the short bearing where the 54 needs the long version which would explain running out of threads on the adjustment.
