Got a gas tank yesterday that I won't be using for up to a year. Was going to tape up the openings and stick it in the attic. Will moisture accumulate, how can I store it?

I assume you mean new tank? If so and condensation is an issue tape rags over openings. Taping them airtight wont help keep out moisture, its already inside in the air,let that circulate and you are fine.

If a used gastank, re-think the attic plan.

Dump some oil in it and rotate until it's completely coated. You can rinse it out when you need to use it.

  4. If you put it in the attic with the holes covered it's going to sweat and have a lot of moisture,,put it in a closet or under the bed if momma will let you. :D HRP

Let it breathe in a cool dry place. Sealing it up and storing in an attic sounds like a lot of temp change. Metal going from hot to cold tends to "sweat" just a little. I agree with rags, and I'd store it in a basement, if you have one.

The big tea bags full of silica are available for keeping the moisture out of it, but I agree that the attic is a bad idea. The oil idea is a good one too, if done sparingly, you wouldn't even have to rinse it out, it would just provide a little upper cylinder lubrication on start up. If too much oil is used, it would also serve as a mosquito fogger :)

Tape a screen on the openings to keep the critters out.

Two windshields occupy the under bed storage. It's a good condition used one that was a gift. Thanks for the ideas, I'll find someplace more suited.

The good stuff stays in the house. Warm in the winter, cool in the summer,no problem with sweating or humidity, clean metal stays that way. But I'm not married anymore,so I can put stuff wherever I want.
