History 1933 - 1936 Willys, picture thread

Do any of you guys know what ever became of the Don long built 33 willys that Hot Rod Magazine covered the build of called the "ULTIMATE A/GS" it had lots of Longs lightweight tricks including some one-off aluminum motor mounts. What was it called? Who was it built for?

Heres the motor mounts on the ultimate. They only used one bolt total on the crossmember the article said that Don Long figured the torque of the motor would hold the other mount in place. The article also says that the front drum brakes were gutted and that Don said the rules state that they had to run front brakes but they don't say they have to work.

 

Looking for info on Willys coupe,"Witchcraft" shown in post #1409. I believe it was out of Kentucky. Thanks.

Here is a pic I have had on the pegboard for a WHILE. The guy that gave me the pic thought the coupe might have been in Reggie Jackson's collection at one time. Anyone out there recognize or know anything about this one? How about you Mark, got anything on this one?

Does anyone have pictures of the front spring hangers on a 33 chassis. Are both mounting points further back than the 35-6 mounts? I am interested in the difference between a 35-6 front hanger and the 33-34. I have a 35-6 chassis and am trying to fit 33 front fenders. Thanks in advance.........Here is what I learned from 39WILLZ. It looks like springs mount in the same place, BUT the 35-6 front hanger sticks out 2 5/8" from frame. 33-4 sticks out about 2" less. Bumper mounts bolt thru fender into either style hanger. Can't get 33 hanger pics to load.

It was from Paducah, Ky. W.R. Sanders & Don Leneave built and owned the car. It set the National A/G speed record at the '62 Nationals.

 

heres mine just picked up from denver anyone know it?? needs work but a roller with real 33 title that counts for something..

Here is the only pic I have been able to find of one of the early Willys gassers on the West Coast. Joe Airoso remembers Bruce Keiser (sp?) as having the first blown gasser he ever saw. It was called the Paladin Special and he saw it in Santa Maria. Obviously, it had an effect! This pic came from oilstick.com where they spelled the name as above from 1958 track photos. Any more photos or info out there? There is some early history for you Mark.

 

Hi willys rule you were asking about Gordon crowes 33 willys that rolled in beaver spings I have it in LeClaire ,Iowa

 

My knowledge of how to get pictures on the Hamb is about as slow as I build a car nowadays! Anyway, I finally got some pictures of my '36 sedan pretty close to where it is now. I love the 2-tone paint, and the Tuned Port motor idea, but I never dreamed that the 33-36 Willys were so small. It has been really hard to fit all the stuff into this body that I wanted to build...but it is finally coming together. Hope to try and fire the motor in the next few weeks, as I get the wiring completed. Trying to hide much of the wiring in a narrow console that barely fits between two Fiero bucket seats. Here are a few pictures from about 6 weeks ago...more to come in future weeks!

Well she's on all fours, now I just have to decide whether to keep it a 1936 willys sedan or convert into a 1933 willys coupe.
