does any one know if anyone sells exhaust band clamps for a 1.5in pipe using a **** joint? i was thinking of using t bolt clamps but they are only 0.75" wide, do you think it will be safe doing a **** joint and using a 0.75" wide t bolt clamp?

Someone must make a wide band clamp, but... I have made my own when I had to.

Flat sheetmetal, thin stuff. Real ones are stainless steel, but mild steel body sheetmetal works fine.

Then 2 strips of band steel, wide enough to drill the boltholes through....at least 1/8" band steel

You wrap the sheetmetal around each of those band strips, so that both wide sides of the band are covered. That gets a good grip on the sheetmetal as you tighten the 2 bolts.

So, in case it is confusing, each bolt goes through drilled holes that you drill after you have wrapped it up. Takes a bit of trial to get the right length of sheetmetal so that it gets real tight on the pipe, before the 2 plates bottom out together.

To get a perfect seal at the "gap".....On one end, as you wrap the sheetmetal, leave a 1" long piece extra, that will slide under the other wrapped end when it is installed. An easier seal, is just put a thin strip under the gap, and the band will hold it in Hope that makes sense, or I can draw a sketch.

Here is a "True-seal" brand. They used to come with a small rolled up piece of tinfoil with some black soft stuff inside...looking like a rolled reefer :D... you put that foil deal in the gap to seal it up.

When the clamp is installed, the two band ends should be almost touching each other as the band gets tightly squeezed. Then, the sheetmetal should stretch a tiny bit as you overtighten the bolts. Then you get a good seal. But if the band is too short, you end up with a big gap.

a V band needs a flange on the pipe?..or is the flange self locking to the pipe?. I believe he wants to just **** join two pieces of pipe?

Unless there is a specific reason you want that style of clamp to **** the ends together with any good muffler shop can make up a slip on connector that you can slide the ends in and use two clamps or you might find one in the bin of tail pipe connectors at the parts house.
