I have a kill switch(toggle), a key switch, and a push ****on. I know, it sounds redundant. It works fine with the exception that I can't shut the car off with the key, only the kill switch. I ran the power wire to the kill switch, then to the key switch. I checked the voltage and everything seems right. Maybe I should run the power wire directly to the key switch and use the kill switch as a positive coil wire interrupter. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Rod

Basically, you have 2 on/off switches tied together? What switch for what? Is it a 2 or 3 way key switch? Momentary push ****on or an on/off? Your idea of the momentary kill will work as well.

  3. you made it more complicated than it needed to be and now it doesn't work ???? imagine that. i believe in the KISS method

how exactly is it wired? what are these switches?

Run your, power to the key then the ****on then the toggle. Basic change the direction you have the power going. It's late let me read this again.

  5. Is it a "universal" key switch? If so, which terminals did you hook up to for power and coil + ? You may have wired the coil to an "always hot" terminal.

Try running main power directly to the key switch, THEN run coil + through the toggle and to the "run" post of the key switch. I would take power to the starter ****on off the run post as well, so there is no chance of cranking the engine with the key off.

Are you getting feedback from the alternator that is causing it to keep running?

A diagram of how you have it wired would sure make this easier to diagnose.

Hi guys, and thanks for all the neat input. exwestracer, I think you nailed it. I have the red power wire going to the toggle and then to the ignition switch "bat" terminal. I also have the coil wire going to the same terminal. I guess I need to break the coil wire at the toggle and take it back to the "ign" post of my ignition switch, which, I guess, would be the "run" terminal. Sound okay? Thanks again, Rod
