I am a long time reader, but this is my first time to start a thread. I have spent 20+ hours over the past 2 weeks trying to figure out what these doors came off of with out any luck. Now, I am turning to all of you to help me figure this out. I found & purchased these doors thinking they were 33-34 coupe doors, but they aren't & I can't figure out what they came off of! Some things to note are they are suicide style, they are 40" wide, the door gl*** was one full piece w/o a vent window, there are only 2 (Edscha) hinges, & the top rear corner is squared not rounded. I know someone out there is going to see them & know in 2 seconds what they are, so please help me figure this out! Post a pic of complete car if you figure it out. Thank you for your time & help.

i'm ***uming you have a '33-'34 FORD coupe in mind, but as far as i know, they never came with a strip of chrome or stainless down the side. i'd imagine these probably came off something French; Peugeot, Renault or Simca maybe. that would make them later than your target, as there seems to be no structural wood in those. the whole shape is wrong and the details are wrong.
all in all, there's more than likely a collector who will take those off your hands if you can match a year and model.

Interior handles may be easiest to match.

I have looked & looked for doors that match & can't find any. The brand & style of door hinges are very unique. I agree with matching the interior handles, I posted the pic thinking someone may recognize them. I also agree they are later, maybe in the 36 or 38 year range. Thanks for looking guys, please help me find this match! It's been consuming way too much of my time, but I want to find out because I'm sure they are rare & someone is bound to be needing a pair!

Pull one of the handles or window mechanism. Possibly a part # or Mfg. name or emblem will be on the part.
33-34 Ford was wishful thinking :D. I would have said nahh from 100 yards away on those being 33/34's.

Yeah, yeah, I figured that I would get a few people saying that about me thinking they may be 33-34 doors. I've done most of my stuff around 60s muscle cars, 28-31 Model As, & 49-51 shoebox Fords. I was in the middle of B.F.E., w/o cell reception, pulling parts out of the dirt. I had to make an on-the-spot decision. I figured I'd be ok no matter what mid-late 30s Coupe they fit.

I will say that it makes me feel better that with almost 300 views, nobody has come up with an exact match. The location of the 2 hinges, type of hinges, lack of vent window, & squared upper rear corner are what make these doors unique.

  10. 1951 German Ford Taunus?? Try a google images search and look through the different body styles.

If you go to "That online Auction Site" that we not allowed to mention, do a 1936 HUDSON search. You'll get a clear view of a factory photo like the one I posted above and another with the drivers door open and a good headon view of the door lock. Love these mystery questions, welcome to the HAMB EliteS&C! Bob

I looked at the Huson/Terraplane models, but the hinge location, body lines, & trim don't match. Thanks for the input.

The overall door shape is very close to mine, but the hinge location doesn't match. We are getting close though. I'm really looking forward to getting this figured out!

Either a German Ford, or possibly a English Ford. Would be my guess.

Kiwi Kev, I think you nailed it. At least, these are the closest thing I have seen in all of my research. I've never even heard of a Ford Taunus until now. I believe they are off of a 1939-1948 model due to the absence of the vent window. What I want to know is if these doors are off of a German Ford Taunus, how the heck did they end up in a cow pasture in western Kansas? Also, these cars look a lot like a 1939 Ford coupe here in the US. Will these fit a 39 to give it suicide doors?

  20. Answer to first question , could be imported by European migrants in the 1950s or GIs returning from Europe. Doors won,t fit a full sized U.S. Ford. I think a VW beetle door is even larger than your little Ford door.

The handles are 38 Ford or at least dead ringers for them.

Does anyone know how common or rare these cars are? Did very many come to the US? Will these door fit on a 38-39 Ford to give it suicide doors?

Sorry, GAZ. Didn't see your post when I wrote that last one. These doors aren't that small. They measure 40" wide where the stainless trim is at. What is the width of a 38-39 door?

you near Fort Leavenworth? full of Army staff and regrettably Army scofflaws. i'd peg the Taunus as being brought back from Germany by a commissioned officer or senior enlisted.

If they are Taunus would the hardware be METRIC, and help confirm this? Bob

Very good point, 62rebel! These doors were found in a cow pasture here in North Central Kansas & we have Fort Leavenworth & Fort Riley near by. Thanks!
