Any feedback on insuring the various components of your hot rod while it is being ***embled? Have $10K in ch***is and drive train and $3K in cab and body work and plenty in parts yet to be ***embled. My homeowners doesn't cover it and wondering if anyone has had experience with insurance while the car is in process/being ***embled?
It's way too much money to risk and I don't want to rely on the shop's insurance.
    Thoughts/ideas?

  2. Needs auto insurance or special rider for parts or auto related business insurance.
It's tricky because they belong to an automobile . And yet a pile of parts doesn't cons***ute a vehicle and you need to own said vehicle.

Get 20 grand wrapped up into an engine and try to get that covered if the **** hits the fan.

I had it on the wagon while it was under construction and the insurance is relatively inexpensive.

A lot of guys are under the impression their homeowners insure will cover a loss if you have a fire,,some find out the hard way. HRP

I currently have 2 builders insured with Grundy. I raise the value as the car progresses thru the build.

  6. I had an "in process" policy with Hagerty for my coupe. Raised it 3x during the build.

Just bumped to the final amount a few weeks ago.

I used a different company , but same process. There's a reason they call it "insurance".

Yes.... Hagerty here. But, I think they want it ***led, and at least plates ***igned. Also, they require all cars IN a garage.
At least, that's been my experience.

    Call them.

Hagerty has great "project" insurance, while building my 51 shoebox, long story short, body work was done had her on my lift raised her up, left the p***enger open and crunched the top of the door. Filed a claim on line that sunday, got a call on monday from Haggerty, want pics, ownership papers and an estimate to fix. Faxed to them on Tuesday, Check in the mail to me on wednesday! Out standing customer service, plus each time something major is completed like the interior, or final paint, i send them a pic and increase coverage. Very inexpensive!

    I use Hagerty.
Of course they want it ***led, that way it can be verified and proved for ownership, but I did not need plates.

I use American collecors and they were a bit sticky about insuring my car prior to being completed. I gave them photos and a detailed list of all money spent and stuck to my guns and they complied with my request. I had my car insured for $35K and it was about $300. or less.

  18. For you Hagerty guys -

Lets say you have just a completed engine and a large pile of expensive parts. No vehicle, no body, no ***les,,,,
    Will they insure that ?

Lets say there's also enough parts to build 7 motorcycles minus frames, engine cases and ***les... Would they insure that ?
